Pursuant to a notice published, 4 large crowd of prominent citizens met in the city hall last night. The meeting was called to order by Mayor W. II. Day, who stated the object of the meeting in a few re marks. At the request of the Mayor. T I. L. Darr read the cir cular letter calling for the organi zation of the National Volunteer Deserves. On motion of Dr. F. II. McLeod, a committee of five was apjointed to attend to the enrollment of names. The foil awing gentlemen constituted the committee: W. H. Day, chairman, F. H. McLeod, L. H. Meares, W. H. Malloy and J. J. Brown. There was some little discussion on the powers of the committee. Capt. Day read a very interest ing circular showing a necessity for the volunteer Reserves, and showing the strength of the United States compared with other nations. R. C. Gregg suggested that some of the prominent citizens he invited to address the meeting. This sug gestion was carried into effect by calls for different ones. Short ad dresses were made by P. A. Willcox, A. A. Cohen, H. M. Brunson, J. F. Stackley, W. It. Barringer and others, Mr. A. A. Cohen’s speech seemed to voice the sentiment of the meeting, although every one present thought that something should be done to show up Florence in the field. There was an effort made to get up a volunteer com pany, but that did not materialize. Robbed the Ciravv.
