It ia propoaed to erect a monu ment on the Guilford Battle Ground to “Light Horae Harry” Lee’s bugler, who fell near Oak Ridge, during Gen. Green’s letreat across the State. The Greenaboro Record gives this account of the killing of the bugler: “It may not be amiss to refresh the memories of our readers in re gard to the tragic death uf Gilliea,” the bugler boy of Lee’a Legion. He was on a scout with the Legion on the 13th of February, 1781, and changed hqrses with a guide, by the direction of Lee and was ordered to the rear. He w&g too diminutive in size to wield a ■word and bad given his pistol to the guide in front. The scouting party were compelled t# retreat hastily and were hotly pursued by Tarleton’s Dragoons, mad* up ofTorieacf the “baser sort.” They overtook the helpless, unarmed boy about midway between Sum- msrfield, the Bruce Gross Roads, and Oak Ridge and literally hack ed and mangled him to death. He was buried subsequently by the side of the road. Let soou came upon the drunken miscreants and amply avenged ths bugler’s death by killing seventeen out of twenty- one of them and would have shot Lieut. Miller, who was in com mand of ths wretches, but being suddenly called in another direc tion Miller escaped.—Ex. — Sheriff’s Sale. ^ ^ && I Stoves !i ,TE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
