It is not at all surprising that the people o* this section have de veloped into eaters of baked Jirt. And the sun continues to bake. Monday is circus day, and the usual crowd will be in town. The tent will be pitched on the lot im mediately opposite the residence of Mr. Geo. Stackley. A prominent planter of this county said this morning that the cotton yield this year would be about 66$ per cent, that is to say, this year’s is a two-thirds crop. Owing to excessively hot and dry weather there is little top crop, and many of the bolls are not fully developed. Miss Lizzie Harllee will re-opeu her school on Sept. 15th. Central locality. It is a source of pleasure to ns to chronicle from day to day large and satisfactory tobacco sales. For the past two weeks the warehouses have been kept un usually busy handling the tobac co sold, and the sales to day indi cate the continuance of active traffic in the golden weed. The number of pounds sold to- da> will perhaps run up to 20,000 or 25,000 pounds Several of our owu planters had tobacco on the floor, and shipments were sold from Mr. J. S. Dunn, of Kershaw county. This market has started ahead, is going ahead and everything points to the fact that it will keep on going. Horse Stolen. From my stable early Monday morning a sorrel mare, with white spot in forehead, white hind lege, and knot on right hind leg. Any information concerning same will be gratefully received.
