(Chicago Tribune.) “Yps, Harry and I went out rid ing on a tandem last evening, and he gave me such a fright 1 have hardly got over it even yet. “How wan that ?” “When we were going through avenue of trees and there was no body in sight he leaned forward on Lis handle burs and reached his head aronnd and kissed me!” “Why, Iteat was dangerous, wasn’t it ? If you had swerved ever so little the machine would have upset and thrown you both oil.” “Yes, but I didn’t swerve.” Keen in mind the hot supper and ice cream festival at the home of Mr. R. P. Paint!!! Alfe ■ The Hammar Faint,. Best and Cheapest on Earth. Guaranteed for for 5 years and sold only for ifcl-lO pen Gallon, —BY— F. H. HUDSON, FLORENCE, S. C. A Coiiiiminication. To the Public; 1 have just been informed by a reliable gentleman who passed through Timmonsville, 8. 0., yesterday with a load of to bacco on his wa> to the Farmers’ Warehouse, Florence, id. C., that a Mr. Morrison, one of the firm of Morrison & Jones, of the Banner Warehouse, stated to him that the American Tobacco Co’s order had been wathdsawu irom the Florence market. In reply to this I will say that the American Tobacco Co. is still in our market, has never yet spoken of getting out and is buy ing daily except when the market is too strong for them, and the statement made by Mr. Morrison 18 positively untrue. If he got it from any other source it is a re peated untruth, and the party who conveyed it to him made and told it for a purpose. I do not mind honest competition and when 1 have to resort to any other than honesty, 1 will retire from the field I very much dislike to enter the columns of a newspaper with un pleasantness but this is now my only means at hand to reach the public quickly to refute a statement, which is without any foundation what ever. 1 will further state that we are still here and have the highest tobacco market in South Carolina, or any other State, and all we ask if you is to bring a load- of tobacco to my ware house and it will not only convince you of the above, but it will show you the busiest market you have visited. I would like to hear from Mr. Morrison and if he is charged with anything which he is not guily of, I stand ready to correct it; but I have the unqualified state ment of the facts above and names of other witnesses hi the case. Respectfully, R. C. Commander. Florence Graded School, Florence, S. C., Sept. 6.—The exercises of the Florence Graded School will begin on Monday 13th instant, undei the charge of J. L.
