Thomas F. Wright of Ninety- Six was at the depot this morn ing. Geo. Brothers is back on his run again, after a visit to relatives in -Charleston. P. A. Brunson, Sr., and James Allen returned last evening from . Greenville. Robert and Eddie Cronenberg returned last night from their visit to Columbia. . Sa:ja Mcpall left last night for Mayesville where he will spend the cotton season. Misses Ida and Nettie McKen zie returned last evening from a visit to Spartanburg. Henry Buck of Marion passed through the city last evening en route to Glenn Springs. Mrs. H. Welsh returned yester day evening from Charleston, where she has been visiting relatives. Miss Mary Baiter of Marion, passed through Florence last night on 1 *r way to Nashville, Teun. W. P. Baskins, supterintendant of the Graded School at Bishop- ville, was at the depot this morn ing. Mrs. C. J. McPherson’s little child who has been so seriously ill is thought to be somewhat better this morning. G. S. Turbeville left this morn ing for Selma, N, C. Mr. Turbe ville goes to prosecute a batch of train robbers. Miss Lassie Potts of Lake Wac- camaw, N. C., passed through Florence last evening on her way to Bristol, Tenn. Mrs. J. C. Brunson, who has been visiting her daughter Mrs. Thomas, of Columbia, returned home last night. Jerome P. Chase, Jr., returned this morning from his trip to Glenn Springs. Mr. Chase is much im proved iu health. J. E. Ellerbe and J. M. Johnson, candidates for congress, passed through Florence this morning on their way to Marion. Misses Bessie and Marie Brun son, of Mars Bluff, passed through last evening on their way to Col lege at Staunton, Ya. Mrs. T. H. Uarllee and Miss Maggie Harllee left this morning for Little Rock, where they will spend some time visiting relatives. IT IS OVEIt. And Mel..-un-in Sweeps the Town of Flor ence—The Kt-sult Otherwise. This has been a hot day, but not politically. The quiet of this com munity has never been more quiet than during the few hours just gone, and but for the fact that two polling places have been oj en, no one would dream that a battle has has been waged and ended. At four o’clock the polls closed, and all over the State the count is in progress. Below is the result of the vote in Florence: Precinct No. 1—For the Senate. McLaurin 200, Evan 2, Irby 8, For Congress—Norton 8, John son 160, Ellerbe 13, Bryant 1, McLaurin 3, Bigham 22. For Judge of Probate—McNeill 126, Shipp 60, Clayton 6, Welsh 13, Cooper 5. An At tractive Frogrniu May he Fxpenitlye. Another meeting of those in terested iu the Labor Day cele bration was held at the City Hall last night. The committees ap pointed on bicycle, reel and foot races and the committee on trades’ display made their reports, and an attractive program was ar ranged which will be published. The exercises will begin with a big parade of wheelmen, fire com panies, reel teams and floats de carnival, and then will follow the various races. In the trades’ car nival it is estimated there will be forty or more floats. Below is the program agreed upon for bicycle races: One mile novice. One-half mile—boys of 15 years and under. One-half mile open. , One mile open. Exhibition tandem race, one mile, by Messrs Oliver and Law of Marion. For each race there are two prizes, first and second, which are now on exhibition in Muldrow and Chase’s show window. Every man, woman and child who rides a wheel is earnestly re quested to meet at Lake’s corner and join the parade. The desire purely and simply is to make this a gala day for Florence. Yesterday Traffic Managers Culp, of the Southern Railway, and Emer son, of the Atlantic Coast Line, were in the city. They came to the city in response to a request of Governor Ellerbe, and held a conference with him in regard to the proposed tight the State is talking of making upon the railroads handling original pack- 1 age shipments. The matter was fully dealt with in The Shite of yes- ; terday. What was accomplished as [ a result of the conference is not known. Governor Ellerbe declined 1 to have anything whatever to say i about the matter. Both of the rail- ] road men left the city before they could be seen. It is not thought i that anything will come of the pro- ; [K)sed fight about which so much j has been said. Local Pickings. A protracted meeting conducted by Revs. R. A. Childs and A. B* Earle is now going on at I’isgah ! church. Mayor Day has received two i telegrams from Sheriff J. W. Cher ry, asking that the blood-hounds be sent immediately to Wilson, N. C. 1 We have been able to learn none of the particulars as yet. At the campaign meeting held at Elim Saturday, a representative of the Daily Times accepted the hos pitality of Messrs. J. W. McCown and J. S. McCall The above named gentlemen went prepared with a bountiful spread, which they invited all to partake of. At a practice meeting of the band last night several excellent selections w’ere played. Among them was Mr. Daylo’s latest compo sition, “The Hope Reel Team.” Upon the ti ue excellence of this pro duction, we feel called upon to compliment Mr. Daylo highly. On the 10th of August at the rasidence of Mr. R. I\ Byrd, in the Ebenezer section, an entertain ment will be given. Ice cream, cake and other refreshments will b© served, the proceeds being for the benefit of the Timmonsville circuit parsonage. All those who desire to spend a pleasant afternoon—and a few dollars—are cordially in vited to attend this festival.
