Mr. George Stnckley has just re ceived a car load of “original packages.” Mr. Chas. K. McWhite was in itiated into the mysteries of the Farmer's Alliance last evening. The procession of bicyclists pro posed for Labor Day is meeting with general favor among the wheelmen of the city. Mr. W. J. Hepburn, who is travelling for Roberts & Hoge, of Richmond, Vn., reports that shoes are rapidly advancing in price. Reduced rates continued. There was a big crowd out to witness the practice. The pro gram tor Labor Dav promises to be very attractive and we trust that all of our citizens will unite iu making it a success. Mr. Carl Daylo has just com pleted a beautiful two-step, which he has entitled “The Hope Reel Team” in honor of the fire laddies. He is now at work upon a waltz. Mr. Daylo says that the band is working hard upon some new se lections for Labor Day. Mr. R. J. Pridgen this morning presented us with a magnificent apple, of excellent quality- This apple is one of the first twenty- four borne by a small tree and measures 13| inches in circumfer- auoe. We extend hearty thanks to Mr. Pridgen, and hope that in the future he will bestow more such favors. Old Newspapers for gale. THE COMING PRIMARY. viin«- Fact* About the Approaching Klee- ;tion—The Tickets. (The Mate, August Kl. All the tickets which State Chairman Tompkins has been hav ing printed at the expense of the several senatorial candidates have now been sent out to the several county chairmen tor distribution. The tickets contain the names of all the candidates. Chairman Tompkins stated yesterday that the candidates who had qualified by taking the pledge under the Constitution were Messrs. McLau- riu, Irby, Evans, Duncan and Mayfield. These candidates, he said, could be voted for. Since the tickets were ordered printed Mr. Mayfield has withdrawn from the race. When asked yesterday if the votes of any candidate who bad not complied with the rules by paying his assessment would be counted, he said that this was a matter for the State committee te determine when it met. So far as Mr. Tompkins knows there are no such candidates as the assessments are paid to the treasurer of the committee and that gentleman has made no report to him ; neith er is he required to do so. The pre sumption is that all the candi dates have paid. He said it was clear that no votes cast in the primary for auy one other than the candidates named above could be counted on 1 account of the constitutional pro vision requiring a pledge to be filed with the Slate chairmap be- c fore a certain time. v • yW Mr. Tompkins expects to-have headquarters at some convenient point on the night of election day and will ask each of the county chairmen to send him returns from their respective counties by wire. St. Anthony's Catholic Church. The few days mission given by the Rev. Father O’Sullivan, the Jesuit Missionary, closed last Thursday evening with sermon and Papal blessing. In the even ing Father O’Sullivan left en route for Mobile and Father Laycock for Charleston. Before their de parture both the missionary and the pastor expressed themselves as more than satisfied with the results of their work and wish through the columns of the Daily Times to thank the people of Florence for their hospitable and generous treatment of them. They predict for Florence, and for the Catholic church in Florence a bright and prosperous future! Father Laycock sends in the following notice in regard to the regular services which will be held at the Catholic church: Service every fourth Sunday of the month will be announced in due time through ttffe columns of this paper.
