To-day’* session Closed What Ha* Been a Yaluuble Lewum to the Colored Teach er* of Florence. At Cumberland M. E. church last night the colored teachers gave a literary entertainment con sisting of select readings, recita tions and choice selections of music. A large audience enjoyed the exercises. The institute opened this morn ing as usual with Bible reading and prayer and roll call, after which the question box was opened and the questions therein dis cussed. The honor roll was placed on black board. It contained the names of 21 teacheis who were neither absent nor tardy during the sessions of the institute. A prize olTered for the most cor rect pronunciation of twenty words written on the black board was won by Mary E. Roberts. Miss Weston spoke on the sub ject of digestion, taking up cook ing, etc-, and Miss Fordham gave an interesting talk on penman ship. Dr. Robinson addressed the in stitute ou Hygiene. County Super intendent E. J. Smith made a few appropriate remarks compliment ing the faculty upon the good work done. Prof. Htdinei con ducted a history lesson and Miss Fordham gave an ex rcis • in physi cal culture. The institute closed to-day. and at the end Prof. Holmes thanked the citizens of Florence for the interest taken in the work of the iustitute, the State superinteudent and county superintendent of edu cation for courtesies, the teachers for their promptness and atten tion, and the Daily Times for cor rect reports of each day 's proceed- iugs.
