■ / Florence Daily Times. Pbblisheb Every Afternoon Ex- ceft Sunday. DARK A BRUHSON, Proprietors. Th* Weather Indhratious. The Weather Bu reau forecasts for this section are as Jollows: Probably fair to mor row. The house had on its working clothes yesterday. The Senate’s amendment to the cigarette bill, if adopted, will make it comparatively easy for the c garette “fiend” to eatiefy hie crav ing for the nauseone little things Senator Pettigrew’s bill to incor porate the Farmers’ Mutual Insur- aace Association of Florence county bids fair to become a law. It has a passed its third reading in the Senate. Among the items in the appro priation bill is one giving $25,000 to the South Carolina College. This is little enough and we sin cerely hope the legislature will, at least, not cut it down. We note that Mr. Garris’ anti- fraternity bill was reported unfav orably by the committee. The house should have adopted the re port on the spot. There are far weightier matters demanding con sideration, and, furthermore, fra ternities are not altogether the evil things that some think them to be. So far as we know, no one is dissatisfied with the work of the present public printer, but that has nothing to do with the manner in which the public printer shall be chosen. The Reynolds bill provides for letting out the public printing to the lowest responsible bidder, with emphasis on “re sponsible,” and the only question before the house is, whether or not this plan is superior to the one now in use. Here is an illustration of the way the wind handled things during the big St. Louis tornado. This bicycle, owned in East St. Louis, was struck by three barrels of syrup, a tierce of lard 1 and one barrel ol vinegar. Absolutely the •nly uninjured parts are the saddle and the Morgan & Wright quick- repair tires, which were full of air when the machine was found Even if these tires had been punctured, unless severely torn, any one of the holes could have been repaired by the quick-repair device in them, without trouble. Riders of these tires, when they have a puncture, need only be careful to pump as much air as possible into the tire before insert ing the quick-repair tool. The re pair can be made in two minutes, at the roadside; without taking the tire off the rim. * Many merchants are well aware that their customers are their best friends and take pleasure in sup plying them with the host goods obtainable.
