As ia well known, cash purchas ers of one dollar or more hare for some time been receiving bicycle hands officials in Wilmington month or so. for a Watch night services will be held in the ilttiiudist Church to night, beginning at 11.15 o’clock and continuing until after the clock strikes twelve. These ser vices are ever interesting, solemn and impressive. The people of our town are cordially invited to at tend. There will be no service at 7.30 o’clock. Night before last ten through cars were broken into. The rob bery was net found out until the cars were shifted to the East end of the yard, when Captain Oifes, watchman on that end, detected it. It is not known what was sto len. It surely must be a gang of professional robbers that can break into ten cars in one night and not be observed bv the em ployees on the freight yard. Mr. H. N. Hanaford, advance agent for the world-renowned Remenyi concert, was in Florence last night. He appeared before the Florence band and submitted a proposition that they guarantee the concert company $100 for a performance at an early date. The proposition was unfavorably dis cussed by the band so Mr. Haua- ford decided not to secure a date here. This concert is undoubtedly superb, but the band wa« unpre pared to take any risk. The com pany is composed of Remenyi, the famous violinist, and two ladies, one a vocalist and the other a pianist. A gang of thieves made a raid ou a through freight car ou the yard last night. A number of packages were stolen, but as yet the exact number and value has not been ascertained as the agent has not made out his report. Mr. J. A. Game found an empty sack tagged 3* L. This gentleman's name is Mr. H. Cowper Patton, and, as he outlines it, his plan embraces several features that will probably be looked upon with favor. in brief, Mr. Patton’s proposed bill will embrace throe distinct measures. First, t* divide the counties more iu accordance with their geographical position; sec. olid, to obviate the present divis- l <11 ot counties between 1 wo or more Congressional districts, and third, to do away with any “pun ishment” for Charleston another cities. Mr. Patton’s bill wjU call for two coast districts, oue Pee Dee, one tiavannah River, aud one cen tral district, and two Piedmont disincts. Under the { resent ar rangement the counties are divided up without regard to their geo graphical position. Richland, for instance, whi 'h is a central coun ty, is in ths same district with Spartanburg aud Greenville, and in this district there are more wi.ite voters than are found in any other iu the State, whereas, as Mr. Patton argues, aud argues well, the white v)te should be more equitably divided between the several districts. It is Mr. Patton’s intention to frame thd'bill so that there will be no conetruct.ve contiguity of counties, aud, in short, to so logi cally and incisively cover the en tire ground that the measure will find popular acceptance.—Colum bia Register.
