Dr. E. P. Jones, Dr. : E. C. Ridgell and J. W. Cooner attended the Union from this church as delegates. Dr. E. C. Ridgell pre- sided over the meeting as moderator. An interesting program had been arranged by the committee in charge for discussion. Dr. t E. Pendleton 1 Jones delivered a very forcible ad- ; dress on "Lawlessness" which was well received by the large audience present: Other addresses of interest were made by Rev. J. L. Hiers of Leesville and Dr. W. S. Dorsett of Ridge Spring. The next meeting of the Union will be held with the Ridge Spring Baptist church, the fifth Sunday in May. Hon. Sidney J. Catts, former governor of Florida, was a distinguished | visitor to our town Sunday. While here he delivered an address to the congregation of the Baptist church using the Sunday school lesson for his subject. Rev. John Page Jones, a student of the Theological seminary at Louisville, Ky., is spending a few days with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. E. Pendleton Jones. G. S. Sample, sheriff . of Saluda county, was here on business Monday. Col. R. D. Izard, the popular representative of The Columbia State, was in town Monday in the interest of his paper. Hon. S. T. Williams, member of the house from Edgefield county spent Saturday in town as the guest of Dr. R. H. Timmerman. L. H. Wright made a business trip to Johnston Monday. Mrs. Mary Timmerman of Edgefield is spending a few days this week with her sister, Miss Pliny Timmerman. E. H. Addy, a popular business man of Hollow Creek township, was in town Monday. The recent cold wave caused considerable destruction to the pine forests in this section many of the trees being uprooted. Many of our shade trees in the streets were broken down by the ice and it required several hours to remove the debris from the streets. Both telephone and electric wires were put out of service and for two nights our town was in darkness. Through the 'prompt action of the town officials most of the work in repairing the damage has been done. Real Punishment"Perhaps the penalty for bootlegging is not severe enough." Ice tumbled last week, not in price, but from trees, buildings, etc., to the ground. Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Howard of Swansea, visited the former's parents last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Itish now occupy the old home place of the late E. M. Keisler, deceased. The recent ice did considerable damage to 'phone lines hereabouts. Mr. Joe Fmith has moved to Mr. N. H. Miller's place for the present year. We have been requested to say that our old friend, Mr. Levi Rish, will celebrate their golden wedding on next Saturday, February 5, at their J home near Pelion.
