NEWS OF BATESBHRG. f
The Union meeting for the Ridge '
association was held with the Bethel
Baptist churfch, near Monetta, Saturday
and Sunday. Dr. E. P. Jones, Dr. :
E. C. Ridgell and J. W. Cooner attended
the Union from this church
as delegates. Dr. E. C. Ridgell pre- sided
over the meeting as moderator.
An interesting program had been arranged
by the committee in charge
for discussion. Dr. t E. Pendleton 1
Jones delivered a very forcible ad- ;
dress on "Lawlessness" which was
well received by the large audience
present: Other addresses of interest
were made by Rev. J. L. Hiers of
Leesville and Dr. W. S. Dorsett of
Ridge Spring. The next meeting of
the Union will be held with the Ridge
Spring Baptist church, the fifth Sunday
in May.
Hon. Sidney J. Catts, former governor
of Florida, was a distinguished |
visitor to our town Sunday. While
here he delivered an address to the
congregation of the Baptist church
using the Sunday school lesson for
his subject.
Rev. John Page Jones, a student of
the Theological seminary at Louisville,
Ky., is spending a few days with
his parents, Dr. and Mrs. E. Pendleton
Jones.
G. S. Sample, sheriff . of Saluda
county, was here on business Monday.
Col. R. D. Izard, the popular representative
of The Columbia State,
was in town Monday in the interest
of his paper.
Hon. S. T. Williams, member of the
house from Edgefield county spent
Saturday in town as the guest of Dr.
R. H. Timmerman.
L. H. Wright made a business trip
to Johnston Monday.
Mrs. Mary Timmerman of Edgefield
is spending a few days this week with
her sister, Miss Pliny Timmerman.
E. H. Addy, a popular business
man of Hollow Creek township, was
in town Monday.
The recent cold wave caused considerable
destruction to the pine forests
in this section many of the trees
being uprooted. Many of our shade
trees in the streets were broken down
by the ice and it required several
hours to remove the debris from the
streets. Both telephone and electric
wires were put out of service and for
two nights our town was in darkness.
Through the 'prompt action of the
town officials most of the work in repairing
the damage has been done.

FEARED THE FUTURE
Williams ton Man Gives Tanlac
Credit for Putting Him
Back on His Feet
"Tanlac- got me back on my feet
and proved just the medicine I needed."
In that sentence, J. L. McClellan, of
Williamston, S. C.. summed up his
! experience with Tanlac.
"When I began taking Tanlac I was
'in a very weak condition, and I was
told that I was threatened with paralysis.
I became so weak I could
not get about at all, and for one year
I was unable to go. I had no appetite
and I never felt well. Even
though I was under treatment I got 1
no better to amount to anything and '
I had begun to fear I would not be J
able to get myself back in good shape
again. 11
"I took seven or eight bottles of
Tanlac and I am in fine shape now. |
My strength has increased a great
deal and I am working regularly at
night. I have a very fine appetite,
and soon after I began taking Tanlac
I began to fatten up right along.
The Tanlac got me back on my feet
and proved just the medicine I needed.
and I am glad to recommend it.
