RT Rrt Rto Rw E. COPELA] A new business combination in wn is that of Messrs. A. P. Burges3 d W. W. Davis in the insurance isiness. We do not yet know the yle of tle new organization. Mr. avis finds the work as cashier of the ank of Santee growing so rapidly at he needs help for the insurance isiness which has also grown at an cceedingly gra',ifying rate for the ist few months. Doth of these >ntlemen are good business men and e feel sure that they are in position land a good amount of business in eir new combination. Mr. Davis is been writing Fire Insurance for ome time and is very familiar with s dealings. Mr. Eugene Tennant of Charleston sited his mother last week. Mrs. J. E. Tennant, accompanied by )r son, Mr. Eugene visited relatives Fort Motte last week. Mrs. Carson and daughter of Dal 3ll are visiting her son, Mr. W. D. arson. Independence Day, the Fourth, pass I very quietly in Summerton, altho ccessive heat prevailed with a cloud ss sky, folks went to church, others urneyed to Sumter to attend -the ices, coming back by Pocalla Springs freshing their bodies in the splen d pool of mineral water to be found sere while others visited friends and me few remained within the thresh >ld of their respective homes to he principal thoroughfares of the void the heat as much as p" wn were crowded with enthusias c motorists in the late afternoon ying to make themselves comfort ble as much as possible. There were ily a few if any who decided to spend ie day at the seashore as is the us al custom of many folks in the in prior. . Mr. Joe 'Joseph left last week for ie west where he will visit St. Louis, hicago, and other western cities in te interest of his business. Mr. J. E. Kelly, our Supervisor, has ?turned from the West where he has een on business. We regret to report that the Santee rossing Company has discontinued i1 idea of building a concrete and :eel bridge over the Santee at fright's Bluff in Clarendon County. Te understand that the Company has rcided to form a stock company and ut in a first class ferry at this point hich will be the next best thing to a ridge. We have not gotten the par culars yet but to be able at an early ate to state exactly the nature of e project. Born to Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Turner, n Monday, agirl. For the past few weeks, or in other 'ords since the recent advance in the j tton prices many farmers in this action have sold their holdings while thers continue to hold. The present rice of about 32 cents is hard to re aise and tihe outlook for good pric es ad still better prices is the reason, >r holtling. Those who still cling to be chimleril: hulio that the bottom till drop out of the present prices and1 kose pessimists that brop~hesied1 haos from an ladugiLrial viewp)oint ave again been difssapainlted. The act of the business is that this is .'hat we might call a new aige id n one knows exactly what to expect. Ve know this much that the old ordIer f things h-is passed away and a new usiness era has dawned upon the d.il f ."lv th 9 it Is now in the rts of business as well as in the cial and economic relation of the 'hole world. FgIks have learnedl to mnscrve andl be above most all things irifty. In olden times, that is in the rai that we have just finished there 'as considerable dlickering but in the r'nsent day dlickering has gone out of ishiion andl direct business methods ave taken its pl'ace. Today there is ffuture made plan fo:- dl things, Irmning on a scientific pb*~:i, and mner iandtising on a maodern method of tying right, sell right. In every 'aarate vocation of life we ca~n see linigs done different from the way ley were done only a few' years plast. rosrierity seems to reign supreme rochglout this Southland of ours as .ver before in our history. So few oplde realize that we are now enjoy., gprosperous timfa andI enntinue to no~ tc. the old Ilfardl Times businiess heln in feect we are enljoying~ the most osperous era we have ever seen'. lose who envelope themselves in a antie of gloom and dsepair for no ason and' sit and wvait 'foir a mythli d1 prosnerity to come are no brainier an the lit6'lel'oy who tries to find the ibow's enld in order to secure the t of gold attached thereto. It is up those who'nrealize tlhis prosperity to read the prosperity idea to- those ho haven't yet got it. The world ar has created inew conditioms every Un VD, Correspon where its influence was felt. The war is over and the treaty signed and the new conditions are here and we must meet them. There is more money in America today than eve' before in its history. The banks report a greater deposit than ever in the Savings de partrnent. We have during the cloudy war times supported the different Liberty Loans, given to Charity, The Red Cross and many other things, many billions of dollars and lived through it with the same spirit and no more prosperity. And, now that L this serious conflict is at an end and 6 the government will call upon us no more for our billions why should we put on long faces and cry Hard Times. Remember folks, we have no, idea of what hard times means in this age. Some of our forefathers could y explain but we cannot. Let every- y body stop seeking and waiting for prosperous times, for Prosperity is L here. With the coming harvest we shall probably see our highest prices. Mr. J. J. Wilkie and daughter are snending some time at Hendersonville, North Carolina. I - Messrs. Curry and Andrews are still in Summerton holding revival services every morning and evening to a crowded tent. As was stated last week in these columns, Bro. Andrews L is a forceful speaker and his exhor tations are going out to many folks. I am quite sure that his explanation E of the Word of God is plain enough E for any one to understand. Folks around about Summerton state that e his explanations of the different pas sages from which he has preached since his campaign n Summerton is the best they have ever heard. Sincd his sojourne here, Mr. Curry, th leader of the singing, himself being a good singer with a well trained voice, has made many friends. It would not be an error for me to state that the effect of this revival is making its presence known in Summerton an:! that we earnestly hope these two gentlemen will leave Summerton in a better spiritual and moral shape than it was before their coming. I am unable to state now just when the meeting will close but it is hoped that it will last at least one week longer. There are several current rumors floating around to the effect that some folks wanted the meeting to close, but we would like to assure Bro's. An drews and Curry that these rumors were evidently put out not by the good people of Summerton but by some propagandist who oppose every thing that stands for the upbuilding of the spiritual and aoral affairs p the town.
