When guests declare they wish to be treated as "one of the family," nothing would astonish and displease them more than to be taken at their word. Mr. R. F. Milligar, of Panola, was! in town Monday and paid his respects to the Tnrsof oce. We are alwrys pleased to meet such energetic, active and successful business men as Mr. Milligan. A teacher, in catechising her class of boys at Sunday-school, asked: "Who was the strongest man?" A little chap of eight years answered, without a moments hesitation: "Sul livan, now ask me who is the best sower." Died Jan. 23rd, 1887, in Fort Gaines, Ga., Dr. James E. Easterlinq, in the 65th year of his age. The Ad rertiaeer, published at Fort Gaines, pays this'tribute to Mr. Easterling's! character: "He was a man of genial manners, and a cultivated, high ton ed christian gentleman." The annual report of the County Treasurer, prepared by his efficient Clerk, Mr. J. G. Huggins, is publish ed to-day. The recent Legislrture has reduced the printing charges for these reports one-half, and now, as is very justly remarked by the Palmetto Post, their publication is no more than "a labor of love." A NASAL INJECTOR free with eh bot tle of Shiloh'uiCatarrh Remedy. Price 5 It is gratifying to learn that the "Dime Readings" are to be revived; and we take pleasure in announcing that there will be an entertainment of this character, together with an oyster supper, on Friday evening, Feb. 5th, at the Grove Academy, for the benefit of the Presbyterian Chureb. Last Thursday being the day set apart by the Presbyterian Church for religious service, in behalf of the wouth of the land, services were held 'mud well attended in the Manning ?resbyterian Church. The Rev. Mr. Mc. McDowell preached a most excel lept and appropriate sermon. A splendid opportunity is present-. ad to equip a military company in Manning. If a company can be organ ized the Adjutant General has prom ined to furnish the arms and accoutre ments. The young men of the town have not been slow in giving expres sion to their willingness to utilize the opportunity. A list with nearly aj hundred names to it has already been procured and a meeting appointed fcr next Friday evening. The rendez vous is the lower story of the TrMEs building. IRemember the time and the place, All should attend. Omnsso.-In copying last week the reportorial interview with Hon. James E. Tindal and a reporter of the1 Necs and Cour'ier, these words were iixiintentionally omitted: "Dr. Tindal was the author of both these bills, and did much by his con servative course and wise counsels to secure the passage of both in the House without opposition." The bills spolen of are the two agricultural binls-the. experimental station bill and time bilk rferriug to nh anizast+on of the Ag cueltnral bureau. This is a high complient to Mr. Tindal, and its omissiou was in no wise intentiondl. It escaped the printer, and being a separatb sen tence, the omission passed unnoticed by the proof reader. Xr. Mason Explains Satlsfactorily the Failure of His Troupe to Perform in Manning. EDITOR oFTIMF:-It was not until after I had been detailed and sent, to make preliminary arrangements; for the Foreston troupe to visit Man ning. and had published it through your paper, that the inability of two or three of the members to meet the' appointment was made known. They, constituting some of the most impor tant characters in our plays, conse quently put a stop to our proposed visit. Neglect and press of business caus ed the non-appearance of an explana tion in last week's issue. And I here by offer an apology to the citizens of Manning and the public, assuring them that unavoidable circumstances only prevented the fulfilling of the Bngagement. C. If. MASON. Foreston, S. C., Jan. 30, 1887. 400,000 SUBSCRIBERS. If we gave a column to the Youth's 6on ranion Annonneement, we could scarcely numerate the attractions it promises for its ixty-first volume. Seral stories of adven mre and dome4tic life, including the eight rize stories for which $5.000 has recently een awarded. Narratives of travel by cele brated explorers. biography, history, scienco. bygiene. recreation -- and many more sub jects. are represented in it. We are not surprised at the ompnion hav ing nearly 400,000 subscribers when we see how it provides something of interest for every member of the family. The (4."npanion is published weekly, and fully illustrated. [ta subscription price is $1.75 a year. Fragments from Foreston. FoREgsToN, January 31st, 1887. Dzit Tixs: We have nothing of interest to write this morning-fine weather at last-the farmers are mak ing some effort towards another crop. WHY WILL YOU congh when Shilho's Cure will give immediate relief. Price 10 ts., 50 ets., and $1. MISS VAN ZANDT. It is astonishing, says one of our marriageable citizens, that Miss Van Zandt, the Chicago heiress, would be so excessively and cold-bloodedly de termined to follow the anarchist "Spies" to the very gallows, with ma trimonial intents, prepense and afore thought, having the lovely prospect of obtaining only the carcass of a felon, as a reward for her trouble and persist ence. Why, be it known unto her that there are sundry persons of the male persuasion here, and of any age, whose fortunes and estates have been in a state of perpetual anarchy who would' save her the trouble of straying hither and yonder like a lost spirit, by going for her and her money at once. Men surely must be scarce in her country and as hard to reach as the fabled fruit of the garden of Hesperides. Astonishing Success. It is the duty of every person who has used Rochee's German Syrup to let its wonderful qualities be known to their friends in curing Consump tion, severe Coughs, Croup, Asthma, Pneumonia, and in fact all throat and lung diseases. No person can use it without immediate relief. Three doses will relieve any case, and we consider it the duty of all Druggists to recomn mend it to the poor, dying consump tive, at least to try one bottle, as 80, 000 dozen bottles were sold last year, and no one case where it failed was reported. Such a medicine as the German Syrup cannot be too widely known. Ask your druggist about it. Sample bottles to try, sold at 10 cents. Regular size, 75 cents. Sold by all Druggists and Dealers, in the United States and Canada. FOR DYSPEPsIA and Liver Complaint, you have a printed guarantee on every hot tle of Shiloh's Vitalizer.
