Mayer, who lives in Atlanta, and wiho is a son o?f Mr. H. M. Mayer, of New,berry, lias sent his fathi er a copy of a letter written by a member of Sherman's army in its famous march to the sea and across Georgia and the Carolinas. Young Mr. Mayer ?ays he has seen the original j and tt':at the following is a true copy, j The only reason for publishing sueu a letter is to give the rising generations some idea of the terribleness of war and the horrors o:' it, and the i rapine and plunder that follow in its wake. Sherman said war is hell and we guess he knew something of war ] whether or not be had any acquaintance with that other place or not. The following is the copy of the letter: Dear Wife:: I have no time for particulars.
