The people ot this country are too fond of taking medicine in the dark. They are so credulous and so eager to make money that they are constantly tbe victims of tbeir own folly. A man has made a large fortune during the past fifteen years by writing letters from Spain to persons in this country telling the latter about fortunes left them by strangers on certain conditions. These conditions always involve the payment of money before the fortune can be secured. It is amazing how many persons who ought to know better have given up from $500 to $10,000 to an absolute stranger in the belief that with this amount the latter stood ready to turn over $20,000 to $100,000 to his rictims.?Lesl ie's. % A Maugnty personage.
