NEWS OF WHITMIRE. x Supper a Great Success-Fine Sermon by Rev. Mr. Roseboro. Personal Mention. Whitmire, April 13.-Mrs. R. R. ter, and daughter, Victoria, and L. R. Cofield, were in town Fri y. Miss Lena Young has returned from visit to Mrs. J. W. Milam at Clinton. Miss Hammett, of Greenville, is vis ing her friend, Mrs. William Rasor. Mrs. J. E. C-ofield is spending a few tys with, her son, Mr. George Co Id, at Carlisle. Mr. Henry Miller spent yesterday th his parents at Cross Hll. -iiss J'ulia. Ferguson, of rlinton, ;nt Saturday night with her broth er, Mr. Percy Ferguson, and return ed to her home yesterday. Mr. C. H. Cooper has returned from a visit to his parents at Cross Anchor. Miss Jessie Ray is boarding at Mrs. Sallie Payne's and taking special les sons from Rev. R. E. Mood. Miss Inez Dobbins is spending the week with friends here. The box supper given by the Ladies' Aid society of the Methodist church at the home of Mrs. J. M. Major, was a grand success. Quite a nice little sum was realized. With this the la dies intend buying a new carpet for the Methodist church. Rev. 0. A. Jeffcoat and Rev. Jno. R. Roseboro chose sides for the spelling match. Rev. R. E. Mood gave out the word. Perhaps it is best that I do not tell how v-y difficult the words were and how quickly some of our solons were seated. Delightful music was render ed by Mrs. Jno. R. Roseboro and Mrs. J. B. Humbert and Miss Mar. garet Porter. Mrs. Sarah Porter has returned from a short visit to Dr. R. R. Jeter's. Mr. J. W. Gary returned to Colum bia yesterday to resume his work for the National 'Biscuit company. Mr. R. S. Wilson has purchased the Snellgrove property adjoining the Charles Tidmarsh place. He is hav ing the house remodeled and expects *to occupy it soon. Mr. M. E. Abrams and son, Tom, spent the Sabbath with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Abrams. Mr. T. W. Abrams is suffering from an at tack of grip. Mrs. A. M. Watson has gone with her daughter, Rebecca, to the hospital in Chester. Mr. Jas. Henderson and daughter, Miss Winnie, spent Saturday night and Sabbath with Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Abrams. The children of the Methodist Sun day school will enjoy themselves at an Easter egg hunt on Good Friday afternoon, beginning at 3 o'clock. All the young people in town are cordially invited to a party at the Spretty country home of Mr. George rAbrams on next Thursday evening. Several of our finest automobiles and all the elegant carriages, buggies and livery stable horses have been engag ed to convey the young couples thith er. This is to be the party. Mr. John Brock came into town yesterday with a load of fine carp fr - which he caught in Tyger river. In a very short time he sold twelve dol lars' worth. Rev. Jno. R. Roseboro preached a' very beautiful sermon Sabbath even-, 'Ing at the Presbyter!anl church, the subject being the imagination and its effect upon our lives for good or for -evil. Mrs. Roseboro's solo, "What SWill You do With Jesus," was very much enjoyed. Mr. E. L. Street has a nice cottage in process of erection on Oakland Heights. Nita. Very Strong. Harper's Weekly.
