On April 19, 1900, for con spicuous work in the reeapture of the notorious escape convict, Riley Hutchinson, he received a letter from Capt. D. J. Griffith, superintendent of the State 'penitentiary, warmly thanking him, in which Capt. For 'his work in the detection and conviction of the murderer of the old negro, Wash Young, in Laurens coun ty he received ta letter from Solicitor Cooper warmly commending his work. Solicitor Cooper said in that letter: "I have no hesitation in say ing that Sheriff Nuford in working ip this case did one of the cleverest and cleanest pieces of detective work that has ever come under my obser vption." The enviable reputation which Sheriff Buford has made is evidenced by a sketch of the sheriff of Lee ec>unty in a recent issue of the Bish opville Leader and Vindicator, in which it was stated that the sheriff of Lee county "is perhaps the young est sheriff in the State, but, next to Sheriff Buford of Newbrry, one of the most alert and most effielent." * * ** ***** * ** * ** * * * GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH. * - * * Rev.
