On April 19, 1900, for con spicuous work in the reeapture of the notorious escape convict, Riley Hutchinson, he received a letter from Capt. D. J. Griffith, superintendent of the State 'penitentiary, warmly thanking him, in which Capt. Solicitor Cooper said in that letter: "I have no hesitation in say ing that Sheriff Nuford in working ip this case did one of the cleverest and cleanest pieces of detective work that has ever come under my obser vption."
