AT CLEMSON COLLEGE. Board of Trustees Hold Annual Meeting?A Great Deal of Business Transacted. Clemson College, July 10.?At the annual meeting of the board of trustees oi Clemson College, beginning Tuesday evening at 8.30 o'clock and adjourning Wednesday night, considerable business was transacted. In accordance with previous resolution of the hoard vacancies in the experiment station were filled as is later stated in detail. Mr. L. A. Sea so, who has rendered such valuable services as chairman of the agricultural committee, and who has been engaged in teaching for about twenty years, was elected to fill the position of assistant professor, made vacant by the election of I'rof. Martin to the chair of mat hornat ics. Mr. A. (!. Slianklin was promoted to I lie posit ion of Associate professor of tiki I hematics and Messrs. J. 10. Hunter, liurr II. Johnstone and 10. W. were promoted in ran If. Mr. Hall Houston was elected associate professor of civil engineering and applied mat lunatics. Mr. Samuel \V. lOvans, who presented inosl oxeelleul testimonials, was elected bookkeeper of the college, made vacant by recent changes. I lie coast experiment station, composed of Hon. ,1. 10. Wannamakor, chairman; Messrs. Evans, Tillman, Donaldson and Mann, reported that most satisfactory progress had been made in the drainage of (he coast experiment station, near Summerville; that '10 acres of land was now thoroughly lilt1 drained and oilier work well under way. An emergency appropriation of !)(!<> was made for dicing an artesian well and making general preparations *.r Hie planting ol a lull crop. Mr. \\ . S. The college experiment station has been enlarged h\ I lie transfer of a large tract of land to the station from the cidlege farm. In accordance with provisons bv the Slate and national governments for eradicating licks, four inspectors were named by the trustees lo be paid by I he college, lo cooperate with sixteen appointed hy (lie national government, under the direction of the college. Something over :? year ago, the college horticulturist was furnished some 'JO,000 narcissus bulbs. These have so multiplied that after a sufficient number h*vo been retained for beautifying tin* college grounds, there will be a surplus of about lf>0,000. The board directs the horticulturist to send a selection of these free to any person in the State who would pay the expense of packing and shipment.
