Constable Williams on Saturday seized a barrel marked ale in the depot at Prosperity, and .on investiyation found that in contained ninetysix pints ol' whiskey. It was addressed to A. Black. Among the many improvements that have been going on and are being made in Now berry, Mr. Joseph Mann has made a contract with Mr. C. C. Davis to remodel his store in i Main Street by putting in an entirely new front, including plate glass and ootherwise overhauling the storeroom. Already in I his part of the city Mr. 1 (. J. McWiiirler has just completed two brick stores and Thomas A. Williams is finishing up one two story brick building. 1 he new stores in (he burned dis-1 hid are all practically completed, and Copelaiul Bros., and Mr. R. C*.! W illiains hope to be moved into theirs very soon. There has never been a time in the history of Newberry when there were as many improvements going on as have been made during this year. People who have been away for six months scarcely know the town when they come into il now. ' Che Newberry Hotel is one of t'.ie most marked evidences of this spir it of improvement, and Dr. Wheeler has had the interior completely over hauled and has added very much to the appearance of the building by having it repainted.
