Served Injunction Keeping Milliken1 Stockholders Out on Ground of Conspiracy Against 1 i nority. Columbia. S. C., May rg.-The Lu- I cas forces sprang a surprise on the Milliker: phalanx. in nght for control at the Lauren's entton mill stockhold ers' meeting this af:ernoon, in the shape of an injuncation granted by Judge Kiugh. forbidding the Milliken stockholders partic ipating in the meeting on the ground that their ac tion was in the nature or a conspira cy against the minority stockholders. There was much feeling over the matter and the Milliken folks left the meeting. saying they wvould con test the meeting as illegal because the . injuinction was without authority in law. Mr. Lucas was re-elected president and six new directors friendly to him were chosen, including J. D. M. Shaw, Frank Pelzer. G. A. Norwood, C. C. Feathierstone and Alex Long. B 'S M down as graduates of Newberry col lege which is a good showing, but it is a little remarkable that we have never had but one alumnus who would accept the presidency and he laid it down after a few years of ser Vice. Out of thj twentyv-five members of the board oi trustees five of them are alumni. The roll of students is composed as follows: Postgraduates 20; sen tirs 27; juniors 13: sophomores 32; freshmen 51: preparatory department 4-2. Th.e calendar for.-1905 shows that tne commencement w;ill be held June t1-I4. but it does not give the speak ers. Their names will appear in the catalogue next year. A note just before the index says: "Catalogue of the Alumni will be for warded to those interested on appli cation to the secretary of the faculty. A catalogue now in preparation will give a brief sketch of all the graduat es of the college, wherever the infor mation can be obtained.'' S. there will be two catalogues this year. That will be a valuable book to! the ah::: i it is carried out without partiality. Bunt to be valuable no name should be omitted and to insert all will make a pretty good sized cata logue. The college seems to be pros pcring and in its prosperity all New hevrry feel s a great inte-est. for it Ts in a sense a Newberry- institution.
