Baker of j Lanes Creek township spent last week with relatives at Sanford, N.C. ! ! Mr. and Mrs. E. Brewer and Mrs. Maggie Gulledge of Lancaster spent last week at the home of Mr. A. F. Brewer. The 2-year old child of Mr. Levi Rushing died at the home of its parents a few miles east of Pageland December 21st and was buried at Providence on the 22nd. \V*e received a letter a few i days ago from Rev. J. W. Ham, the well known evangelist, in which he stated that he goes to Chicago University for this year to try to "get some of the bone out of my head," to use his own expression. He was hurled around, and badly bruised, but no bones were broken. The following officers were recently elected and installed for Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 58 A. F. M.:T. W. Turner, W. M.; J. A. Turner, S. W.; G. F. Evans, J. W.; S. B. Eubanks, Treas.; R. H. Nelson, Sec; R. F. Smith, S, D.; C. W. Porter, I. D.; J. D, Watts, H. T. Outen, Stewarts: J.C. Mangum, Tyler. Rev. J. W. Elkins reports that the Christmas tree at Antioch was excellent. He says the Sun there had been no several years past.Al^RKibers of the school received presents from the tree, Mr. Elkins receiving a pair of gloves. At the mass meeting here last Friday afternoon the following officers were nominated for the Town of Pageland to be voted upon the 23rd of January: For mayor, J. E. Agerton and A. F. Funderburk. For wardens, L. J. Watford, S. A. Sellers, J. D. Redfeam, S. B Eubanks, S. H. Lanev, H. V. Mungo, H. B. Sowell, R. H. Blakeney. The third and last attraction of the lyceum course will be given at the school aucitorium Monday night, January 15,1917. Dr. Lucian Edgar Follansbee, a noted lecturer, will furnish the entertainment for this occasion. Reports from the places he has been indicate that he is one of the foremost entertainers on the A I > pittllUllll IUI IV. Mr. John Newman had an arm broken and a shoulder dis located, and Mr. C. Blackwell had a leg broken and was otherwise bruised up in an automobile accident near Mr. A. V. Mungo's in Lancaster county on Christmas day. Mr. Blackwell was carried to a hospital in Rock Hill and is doing only fairly well. Mr. Newman is recovering at home. Mr. Clarence W. Pigg and Miss Nellie Kirkley were mar ried at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Pigg just south cf Pageland on December 17th at five o'clock in the afternoon by Rev. R. W. Cato. Just after the ceremony a bountiful supper was served. The bride is a daughter of Mr. John Kirkley of the Center Grove section. She is a young lady of sterlieg worth, and is very popular in her section. Mr. Pigg is an enterprising young farmer. Each has a host of well wishers. Miss Lillian Brewer of near < Hornsboro is visiting at the < home of Mrs. Mary Price. Seymour Taylor performing the ceremony. % Mr, T, A. Funderburk will move his family back from Cheraw .to Pageland within a few days. He has rented the old bank building. Mr. Funderburk is a good citizen, and the people will welcome him and his family back home. Mr. Baxter Smith is at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Smith in Lanes Creek township, recovering from an operation for appendicitis which he underwent in a hospital at Sanford several days ago. He has been buying cotton at San ford this season, and has made a market for the town and a splendid record for himself. Mr. Jerome Askins soil of Mr. S. E. C. has been melting j this rosin, straining it and put- s ting it in barrels. He states that 5 it is worth about ten dollars a c barrel now. > Mr. George Parker, who lived on Mr. H. He ^ is 53 years old, and up to the t time his mind became affected , he was a peaceable citizen. 1 Robert Ney, the two-months '? old soh of Mr, and Mrs. D, F. 1 Little died suddenly on the mghl 1 (if December 21st. The little < fellow had been laid to rest and < was thought to be sleeping quiet- ' ly. About thirty minutes after < it was put to sleep it was found 1 dead. The body was buried at I Rose Hill cemetery on the following day. The South Carolina lawmakers meet next Tuesday. Mrs. Jane Jordan died last Wednesday at her home a tew miles east of Pageland, and the body was buried at Providence Thursday. Mr. Daniel Plyler of Monroe has bought a half interest with Mr. M. Price, and will be associated with him. They will add a line of groceries to their stock [>f 5 and 10 cent articles. Watts at his lome just south of Pageland ibout 3 o'clock Sunday afterloon, December 24th. Mr. Graves is a son of Mr. John W. Graves, and is well known in us section. He is of splendid character and well liked. Mrs. graves is a daughter of Mr. A. ackson, who lives a few miles outheast of Pageland. She is a :oung lady of good character, ind is popular. Many friends vish them success and joy. Mr. William A. Rivers of Mt. Droghan. one of the most irominent men of the county, lied at his home last Wednesday nght, after several months ill less from tuberculosis of the hroat. He had been "at Asheirille much of the time during he summer, but found little elief there. He was a son of the ate James Rivers, and was about forty-seven years old. He was a leading member of the VI. R. church and a splendid citizen. His wife, nine children and 2 brothers survive. The x>dy was buried at Antioch :hurch on the following day, Rev. J. W. P., Heidt of Coatsville, Pa., was a guest at the home of Miss McPherson one day last week while enroute to visit his sister in Savannah, Ga. Drs, J. D. Ingram and A. A. McManus and Mr. W. C. Monroe Couple on Long Trip Abroad \ Monroe, Dec. 27.?Relatives here received a letter today from Col. and Mrs. A. M. Stack, stating that they were on board the steamship Great Northern, en route to Hilo, Hawaii. Lt "was expected that thev would spend Christmas in Honolulu after which they expect to go to New Zealand. TTfore returning to Monroe Mr. an Mrs. Stack will visit japan, Fiji Islands and Australia. Mr. Stack is a leading attorn ey of the Monroe bar and was formerly solicitor of this district, resigning two years ago to devote his time to his more lucrative practice, 'l'hey will return home next March. .
