Mr. and Mrs. E. Brewer and
Mrs. Maggie Gulledge of Lancaster
spent last week at the
home of Mr. A. F. Brewer.
The 2-year old child of Mr.
Levi Rushing died at the home
of its parents a few miles east of
Pageland December 21st and
was buried at Providence on
the 22nd.
\V*e received a letter a few
i days ago from Rev. J. W. Ham,
the well known evangelist, in
which he stated that he goes to
Chicago University for this year
to try to "get some of the bone
out of my head," to use his own
expression.

very painfully hurt at Mr. Mack
Keziah's saw mill on the old
Gulledge farm in Lanes Creek
township Monday afternoon by
a belt. He was hurled around,
and badly bruised, but no bones
were broken.

Rev. J. W. Elkins reports that
the Christmas tree at Antioch
was excellent. He says the Sun

At the mass meeting here last
Friday afternoon the following
officers were nominated for the
Town of Pageland to be voted
upon the 23rd of January: For

Redfeam, S. B Eubanks, S. H.

The third and last attraction
of the lyceum course will be
given at the school aucitorium
Monday night, January 15,1917.
Dr. Lucian Edgar Follansbee, a
noted lecturer, will furnish the
entertainment for this occasion.
Reports from the places he has
been indicate that he is one of
the foremost entertainers on the

Mr. John Newman had an
arm broken and a shoulder dis
located, and Mr. C. Blackwell
had a leg broken and was otherwise
bruised up in an automobile
accident near Mr. A. V.
Mungo's in Lancaster county
on Christmas day. Mr. Blackwell
was carried to a hospital in
Rock Hill and is doing only
fairly well. Mr. Newman is recovering
at home.
Mr. Clarence W. Pigg and
Miss Nellie Kirkley were mar
ried at the home of the groom's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amos
Pigg just south cf Pageland on
December 17th at five o'clock
in the afternoon by Rev. R. W.
Cato. Just after the ceremony
a bountiful supper was served.
The bride is a daughter of Mr.
John Kirkley of the Center
Grove section. She is a young
lady of sterlieg worth, and is
very popular in her section.
Mr. Pigg is an enterprising
young farmer. Each has a host
of well wishers.

Mr. Talmage McBride and
Miss ?una Bailey, both of
Marshville, were married Thursday
night of last week at the
Methodist church at Marshville,
Rev. Seymour Taylor performing
the ceremony. %
Mr, T, A. Funderburk will
move his family back from Cheraw
.to Pageland within a few
days. He has rented the old
bank building. Mr. Funderburk
is a good citizen, and the people
will welcome him and his family
back home.
Mr. Baxter Smith is at the
home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. F. M. Smith in Lanes Creek
township, recovering from an
operation for appendicitis which
he underwent in a hospital at
Sanford several days ago. He
has been buying cotton at San
ford this season, and has made a
market for the town and a splendid
record for himself.

There was a turpentine still ?
on the farm where Mr. G. F. r
Evans now lives about forty (
years ago. Quite a lot of rosin (
was run away from the still into \
pits nearby, where it has remain- c
ed. Mr. G. E. Phillips of Os- (
borne, N. C. has been melting j
this rosin, straining it and put- s
ting it in barrels. He states that 5
it is worth about ten dollars a c
barrel now. >
Mr. George Parker, who lived
on Mr. H. J, Funderburk's farm (
in the Zoar section, was carried j
to Monroe last Thursday, from (
where he will be carried to Mor- i
ganton. N, C. for treatment, t
He has been mentally unbal- t
anced for about six weeks. He ^
is 53 years old, and up to the t
time his mind became affected ,
he was a peaceable citizen. 1

Little died suddenly on the mghl 1
(if December 21st. The little <
fellow had been laid to rest and <
was thought to be sleeping quiet- '
ly. About thirty minutes after <
it was put to sleep it was found 1
dead. The body was buried at I
Rose Hill cemetery on the following
day.

met yesterday. The South
Carolina lawmakers meet next
Tuesday.
Mrs. Jane Jordan died last
Wednesday at her home a tew
miles east of Pageland, and the
body was buried at Providence
Thursday.
Mr. Daniel Plyler of Monroe
has bought a half interest with
Mr. M. Price, and will be associated
with him. They will add
a line of groceries to their stock

character and well liked. Mrs.

outheast of Pageland. She is a

vish them success and joy.
Mr. William A. Rivers of Mt.
Droghan. one of the most
irominent men of the county,
lied at his home last Wednesday
nght, after several months ill less
from tuberculosis of the
hroat. He had been "at Asheirille
much of the time during
he summer, but found little
elief there. He was a son of the
ate James Rivers, and was
about forty-seven years old. He
was a leading member of the
VI. R. church and a splendid
citizen. His wife, nine children
and 2 brothers survive. The
x>dy was buried at Antioch
:hurch on the following day,

Monroe Couple on Long Trip

here received a letter today from
Col. and Mrs. A. M. Stack, stating
that they were on board the
steamship Great Northern, en
route to Hilo, Hawaii. Lt "was
expected that thev would spend
Christmas in Honolulu after
which they expect to go to New
Zealand. TTfore returning to
Monroe Mr. an Mrs. Stack will
visit japan, Fiji Islands and
Australia.
Mr. Stack is a leading attorn
ey of the Monroe bar and was
formerly solicitor of this district,
resigning two years ago to devote
his time to his more lucrative
practice, 'l'hey will return
home next March. .

o'clock a. m., for the purpose of
voting on a resolution to dissolve
the charter of the corporation.
