Flow, a candidate for the same otfice, came to blows today in the office of the latter. Political accusations were at root of the disturbance it is said. They were separated before any physical damage resulted. The case will be called before W. O. Lemmond, sub recorder, at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning, Mr. Lemmond is also a candidate for recorder at the coming primary. The contest for this office is getting exciting, and over-zealous statements by Squire Flow was charged by Mr. McCrae, and these were denied by Squire Flow. The lie was passed, it is said, and the fight was on. Auto For Policemen Monroe, May 25.?The board of aldermen has purchased an automobile for the policemen to use in answering calls to suburbs of the city. Previous to this time, the policemen have either walked or used surries. The alderman, however, have had this move in mind for some time to meet the necessity, and * i 1 1 .i ? tuuuy puicirascu me maCDine. The city has a splendid force of officers, and with this added facility, will meet every demand made upon them. An Irishman called at.the doctor's one night about ten o'clock with the information that his two-months cjd baby would not sleep. The physician gave the man some sleeping powders for the baby, telling him to let him know the following day how they acted. The next morning the Irishman appeared, his face wreathed in smiles. "Well, how did the powders work my man?"asked the doctor. "Thim powders, doc," replied the man,44wuz a wonder! They shure did th' thrick, all right." "Made the baby sleep, did they?" "No, doc, they didn't," said the Irishman. "We give th' darlint a dose, jest as you tol' me, but it wouldn't shleep at all, at all. So me an' me wife jest took a big dose o* thim powders oursils, we did, an' wint right off to shleep, an' niver beard th* darlint cry one bit any more." Patrick O'Mally, wearing a long face, came into the colonel's tent and requested a leave of ah sence. "Didn't I give you your furlough only two months ago?" asked the colonel. Pat wiped a tear from his eye. "Yis, colonel, but this morning I received a letter from home sayin' me wife's down with fever an' longin' for the sight o* me 'fore she goes." "See here O'Mally," blazed the colonel, "I've got it on you this time! I got a letter from your wife vesterday, saying you didn't draw a sober breath during your last furlough, and asking me not to give you any more. So I guess that ends it." Crestfallen, Pat turned to go. Just before he reached the door he hesitated; then turned. "Colonel." "Yes." "May I say a word?" "Go ahead." "Well, colonel, I just want to say there are two mighty big liars in this tent. I haven't got any wife." Two negroes stood at the back part of a hall where Senator Penrose was making a speech. The colored men listened for a few minutes and then one of them said: "Who am dat man, Sambo?" "Ah doan know what's his name," replied Sambo, "but he certainly do recommend hisself raos' highly, doan he?"
