[ "The southward bound train on I theSnvaunah und Charleston Railroad ran off Friday near Whitehall, while pa.sing over the trestle over Hay ward rice plantation. The engine and tender, passed over safelv, but one freight car went down with the trestle, and anothe was turned upside down. One end of the mail and express car went down into the mud, and the other remaioicd on the trostle. The second class passenger ear was carried off the track, but the tirst class car was uninjured. The accident was caused by the breaking of an axle of the freight car. The mail, baggage, express, freight and pissengers were transferred to the train from Savannah, which returned to that city.
