The following ia the lament of a Boston woman: My husband's orosser than a bear, And won't give me a thing to wear; When I of him the reason axeB, He grumbles, "Those oonfonnded taxes." Her late is a^sad one. [She can never enjoy life as muoh as the gushing Brooklyn woman who has access to her husband's purse whenever she feels like it, and sings merrily: My husbond'a good as he can be; Says he, "My love," says he to me, "Take all yon want, for Heaven's sake, Ere taxes leave yon none to take." ASVBNTUBXS of AN AUBRIOAN EX plobkb IN AfBIOA?DECAPITATION as A Botaii Ooubtest.?A letter has been received in New York from Col. Ohas. O. Long, the American explorer in Africa, dated Gondakoro, April 20, 1874, stating that the writer was com? missioned by Colonel O. G. Gordon, Governor-general of the Provinces of Equator, to visit King Uganda, for which ebjeot -he left Gondakoro on tbe I 21th of April last, and reached Victoria Nyanza after fifty-eight days of painful marching, ond all suffering from tbe jangle fever. The King received Mr. Long with courtly powers, and on the following day, to oomplete the honors, decapitated' thirty of bio subjects. Long, sifter a few'days'sojourn, ob? tained the King's permission to visit j the lake. On hie return the King again decapitated seven of his subjeots, say? ing, in broken Arabic: "It ie neoeesaty I to do so, because you wish to go by tbe Biver Nile, bat it pains my heart to kill thorn." Long remained twenty nine dayB. as the guest of the King, and frequent visits to him were honored ] by the killing of eight to ten of bis : subjeots. The letter also describes! Long's exploration of Lake Victoria, Nyan&a and elsewhere. August 17th, When on his return from the King's dominions, his little band was attaoked by four hundred natives of another tribe, ond, after a severe fight, Loug was victorious, the Africans losing eighty-two killed. The resolution "to do or dio" is never go mnoh to anybody as to the young man who bursts a snspender button in the midst of the "lanoiers."
