' TjNiTBTjl States Army Changes.? The Army Register lot 1875 baa been printed iu advance, showing raaoh in UreeUog matter. The United Statte army has been reduced by deaths, din ohargca and desertions from 30,000 (its reported strength last January) to 25,000 enlisted men. There are now 2,069 officers on tbe notivo list o! the army, without counting a batoh of sb sistant snrgeonB recently appointed, so that for every twelve enlisted men (and a fraction) there is one eon*missioned officer. Forty-five officers have been lost to the service by resignations, deaths and dismissals; upward of 120 have been promoted, forty-nuo cadets h?ve joined the army from Wost Point, Tbe resignations were nineteen; deaths, twenty-five; dismissals, live; cashiered, fonr; deserted, two; retired, nine. A CoLonED DirLOMATisr.?The re? presentatives of the United States to tbe two principal oonntries inhabited and governed entirely by iho colored raoe, are themselves colored men, and | both these colored diplomatists ure at firesent sojourning in Philadelphia on eave of absence from their poHts. They are Ebenezer D Basaett, a former resident of Philadelphia, who has been Minister resident and ConRul-Oeneral to Hayti since 18C9, and James Milton Turner, of St. Louis, who ban been Minister resident and Conanl Gcnerul to Liberia since February, 1S71. Mr. Turner, tbe latest arrival, reached, Philadelphia on Wednesday, aud has rooms at tbe Continental Hotel. He has bad quite a checkered career, hav? ing been a elave in St. Louis County, Mo., before the war. The Philadelphia Chronide pnblish ?8 the subtance of Gen. Gordon's re? marks at tbe late glorification ot Atlan? ta, Ob., over tbe Democratic victory, and adds: *'Uuless faith in unman nu-1 tare is to be-abandoned, what other > conclusion can be reached than that the people of the Sonth are fully pre? pared to do their part toward the re? storation of national peace and pros perity. 8noh statements do not savor of Ka Klnx, or of outrage npon the rights of tbe negro. It would be well for some of our rabid contemporaries to imitate their spirit, and thus assist in allaying strife instead of promoting it, as they are now earnestly endeavor? ing to do." * i - - A simple accident, near Rutland, Vt., bad a remarkable semblance to mnrder. Mrs. McGuire, a farm-wile, took a load of butter to the village, sold it for forty dollars, and started alone to drive home. Afterward she was found lying dead on the fl>mr of her carriage, with her head terribly bruised and her money gone. The theory of robbery aud murder found ready credence. Later, the truth ex? plained it all. She had died of heart disease, and had fallen on tho wheel of the carriage, which had made tho bruiseH, and the money bad been spout in paying bills in the village. - - ? - -??. A Fatal Thanksgiving Day Acci? dent.?A crowd of men in fantastic dress paraded tho streets iu Hoboken, .New Jersey, on Thursday, and while passing, a small cannon was brought out and several salutes were tired. A nnmber of children amused themselves by running in front of the cannon and were ordered away. John Sweeny, aged fourteen, ran before the cannon jast as it was tired, and his right leg was blown off. He died that evening. Tax Levy. Richlad County. Office County Treasurer, Columbia, S.
