BY JULIAN A. SELBY. Amendments to tue State Consti? tution.?There are three amendments to the Stnte Constitution, which will be snbmitted to thb people nt the next election: 1. In regnrd to changing the bound? ary lino between Pickens and Oconee Counties from Whito Water to Toxa way River. Tbo preseut boundary is said to occasion great inconvenience to the people interested. 2. It is proposed to change tho term of office of the Comptroller-General, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Attor ney-Geuernl. Adjutant and Inspector Genoral and Superintendent of Edu? cation from four to two years, by which all tho State officers will bo elected every two years. 3. Tins amendment prohibits the General Assembly from authorizing | any County, city, town or villago to become a stockholder in, or to louu its credit to any company, association or corporation for any amount exceeding ?ve per cent, of the assessed vuluu of the taxable property of such County, city, town or village, without tbo ap? proval of a majority of the legal voters thereof, expressed at an election duly held according to law. BUTLER. ?While tbo Beast was speak ing at Essex.it is said that "a mis? chievous yonng man about twenty years old, Littlefield by name, voJuu teered a little performance, which, al? though on second thought it was uni? versally condemned, provoked at ilr6t no littio langhter. Iu tho centro of the ceiling of the ball is au open ven? tilator, and from this wns suddeuly Keen depending upon un invisible, thread a great table-spoon. It remain? ed fixed for a moment, and then, as if the thread was being twisted between the thumb and finger, it began to wig? gle and dance about liko a jumping jack. The situation was so ludicrous that it was perfectly irresistible, and each one in the audience, as be com? prehended it, burst into a laugh." Camden boasts a colored womau who is the mother of twenty-two children, the yoongest a week aid.
