Ropes were procured aud a lino formed, aud brave mon, thus protected, dashed into the torrent, saving many lives. Only a few women and children wero lost. Roger Robnett, the reporter of the Sentinel, is among the drowned. Tbe Sentinel office was swept away. Bodies are being brought to tbo Court House ns fast as recovered. Three Chinamen were lost, thirty bouses swept away and all that part of the town ia whioh is situated dance houses and other places of amusement is goao. The flood lasted half an hoar.
