Alexander Ale, Charles Keller, Hawley Walsh, Tom Lowell, Tom MoMantrs, Henry Beimensynder and Lorenz Krebs, of tbe gang, who were also engaged in fighting the fire, were overcome by gas, and had to be oarried from the mine. The first two were iusensible when brought to the fresh air, and have sinoe died. The others are doing well. If it was misconduct or a crime, it was still official misconduct, or a crime com? mitted by him as Governor. It is, therefore, ordered, that the indictment for larceny, as to Franklin J. At noon, vast quantities of the frnit began decomposing, and was given away. During the after? noon, the steamer Collyer, having on board 1,200 quarts of berries, and the Pailisade, with 1,000 quarts, arrived. Large crowds of hnoltsters were in waiting for the boats, but the best price that could be obtained for the berries waa five and six oents per quart for a prime article. The Kent arrivea at 6 P. M. on Saturday, having on board 1,200 quarts of berries, which wore a drug at five cents per quart. It appears from the spirit of comment and observation at Washington that the views of the President in favor of a prompt working towards tbe re? sumption of specie payments, have ex? cited no little hostility among the in? flationists. Yet tbe attitude of the President is an assuring oue to the country at large. There is of course no doubt that Secretary Bristow is in full sympathy with the President, end that he enters hid office not only with a purpose to reform its administration, but it is believed its policy also?in a word, "to make a return to specie pay? ments, the objective point of all his efforts." Murder and Suicide ?At Jeffer aonville. Indiana, Saturduy evening, John McDermott, a saloon-keeper, while under the influence of liquor, shot at his wife while she was nursing her baby. The bull parsed through tho baby's head and lodged in tbe mother's breast, inflicting, probably, a fatal wouud. He then blew his own brains out. His wife bad left him and i bud applied fur a divorce, but had j agreed to return aud live with him. Important Bankruptcy Decision. I Chief Justice Waite, in the United I States Circuit Court at Richmond,Ya., I last week, decided thut no bankrupt iu Yirgiuia can get a homestead ex? emption as against debts contracted prior to July 0, 1809?the day the State Constitution was ratified. He also decided that a man has a right to waive his claim to a homestead. A Boston clergyman defines hell as "a place of eternal uneasiness."
