Long advertisements by the week, month or year, at reasonable rates. ' ? AllTSOKNIOUB B?X DlBHOHBOT DoDQE. Aa ingenioue, if not an honorable, dodge for advertising a play, is alleged to have beat, resorted to by the management of the Stad. Iheatre, in'New York/city, the other day. It appears that a sensa? tional drama, entitled "The Streets of New York; or, The Jesuits in America." Was advertised for performance on the theatre .boards, last Sunday evening. The play is modelled on the principle of the extremest exaggeration, libeling and caricaturing the Jesuit Fathers in the broadest manner. A rumor was started early in the day that the Bedemptorist Fathers had learned the plot of the play, and were calling indignantly for its sup? pression. If they failed in this, it was carefully given out that they intended to prevent its . performance, try taking ad? vantage of the statute again Bt threat rical exhibitions on the Sabbath. Both re? ports answered the purpose of giving the necessary notoriety to the play, and a crowded audience, completely filling the spacious threatre, gathered to witness the representation. No disturbance oc? curred, however, to mar the evening's entertainment, or to satisfy those who .had come to witness a row. In answer to a reporter, who called upon one of the] Bedemptorist. Fathers to ascertain the truth of the statement that they in? tended to interfere with the-play, the Father stated that they had entertained no auch intentions, and that they could not have been offended by it, since they were as little allied to the Jesuits as the Dominicans or Carmelites. Bxtraot from Kansas City Council pro? ceedings; "You are not afraid of me, yon little contemptible-? 'Why, I eonld tread upon yon and o-r-u-s-h you, Birl" Harner glanced down nervously towards Porter's pedal extremities, when, after securing safe distance, be replied, Like David unto Qoliah: "I fear you not, you great over-grown skunk 1". . AMONG the groat dis? coveries of modern science, fow aro of more real value to mankind than this effectual re? medy for all diseases of the Throat and Lungs. A vast trial of its virtues, throughout this and other coun? tries, has shown that it does surely and effect? ually control them. The testimony of our ?est oitizena, of all classes, establishes the faot, that Chkbbt Pkotobal will and does re? lieve and oure the afflicting disorders of the Throat and Lungs beyond any other medi? cine. The most dangerous affeotionB of the Pulmonary Organs yield to its power; and caBOB of t'omnmpuon, cured by this prepa? ration, are publicly known, so remarkable as hardly to be.believed, were they not proven beyond dispute. As a remedy, it is adequate, on which the publio may rely for full protec? tion. By curing Cough*, the fore-runnerrof more serious disease, it saves unnumbered lives, and an amount of suffering not to be computed. It challenges trial, and convinces the most skeptical. Every family should keep it on hand as a protection against the early and unperceived attaok of Pulmonary Affections, which are easily met at first, but whioh become incurable, and too often fatal, if neglected. Tender lungs need 'this de? fence; and it is unwiso to be without it. As a safeguard to children, amid the distressing diseases which beset the Throat and Chest of childhood, Cbkbut Pectobal is invaluable; for, by its timely use, multitudes are rescued from premature'graves, and savod to the love and affection oentred on them. It acts speedily and surely against ordinary colds, ?eouring sound and health-restoring sleep. No one will suffer troublesome Influenza and painful Bronchitis, when they know how easily they can be cured. Originally the product of long, laborious, and successful chemical investigation, no cost or toilia .spared in making every bottlo in the ntmoBt post>iblo perfection.
