Vernon. On their way down the river they were told that they were going to visit the tomb of the first Great Father. On their arrival at the tomb each Indian walked np to the irbn door, and passing his right hand through the grating, shook it, as if shak? ing the hand of u friend. When asked by the interpretor what they were doing, their reply was, "We are shaking hands with the spirit of the Great Father."
