A WlFE WHO ClHCTJMNAYIOATED THE O LODE IN SEAUCH OP HEB HOSBAND. Mary Anno Wentworth was the only danghter of respectable Dew England parents, whoso parents came over in the Mayflower, and whose grand-sires fought on the side of freedom in the Revolu? tionary War. At eighteen, Mary Anne was the belle of her native village, and had n host of suitors. She married John Thompson, a yonng English sailor, and soon after their marriage, he sailed for London, and three years' after, ho wrote to his wife that he was about to sail for'China. This letter changed all the young wife'splans. She determined to leave her ohild .with her parents and take passage for Enrope in the next steamer. Bat before she arrived in London, her husband's vessel had sailed, and having ascertained that the destina? tion of the vessel was Hong Hong, she persisted in following in the first ship going thither. A month expired ero the young wife could find snob a ship, and on her arrival at Hong Hong, she learned that the clipper in which her truant hus? band served was on her way to Sydney, with a cargo of tea. Again she started, but ber trip to Sydney proved as unfor? tunate as her trips to London and Hong Hong, for there she learned that her husband's vessel had just sailed for New York, with a cargo of wool. Luckily, an American ship was up for New Yoi k in a few dsys, and the captain, a light? headed Yankee, hearing her story, and admiring her courage and devotion, gave her a free passage back to her na? tive land. She arrived in New York about two weeks ago, penniless and des? titute. This, however, is not the worst, for the man in pursuit of-whom she had circumnavigated the globe she found living here with a worthless woman, and was constrained to summon him to one of our civil courts, ero she could compel him to recognize her rights as a wife and to provide for her support. This he did in Justice Hart's court, Friday. fiveio ForA; Suit. Some time ago, it was reported that a white man was visiting the negroes in North Ala-..ma, with the statement that the emancipation proclamation by Lin? coln had been burned at Chicago, and that it would require a largo amount of money to get up another; and that, unless the thing- was done soon, slavery would be rostorcd, and they would ull go back into servitude. Upon this, he was soliciting mopey, with considerable suc? cess. Wo now hoar that the some ge? nius bas been figuring nt several poiuts in Mississippi. The best woman's right item we have seen comes -*m France. A vory beau? tiful lady of the Die Vernon typo, living in Boulogne, out a challenge to the pub? lisher of a humorous journal, who bad "twice concerned himself with her pri? vate affairs." A formal acceptance of the duel was returned, the choice of arms was waived, but a decided prefer? ence for those of the lady herself was expressed. Reconciliation followed, and the wedding trip is to the United States. The reason why a dog's nose is always oold hos been thus poetically set forth: "There sprung a leak in Noah's ark, Which made the dog bogin to bark; Noah took his nose to stop the bolo, And hence his nose is always cold."
