Wallaoe, Esq., Oolleotor of In? tern al Re ven ne, visited Anderson last week,Hn oompany with special detectives, and confiscated several boxes of tobacco I illegally stamped. He also, confiscated I over $400 worth of tobacco in Abbeville, last week. Of course, the merchants are entirely innooent of any attempt to evade thew laws of the country. - The responsibility of these illegal stamps in every case has been affixed upon parties known to the merchants from whom they purchased the tobacco. It further appears that the parchase of tob?ceo I from wagoners ia attended with more danger of this character than where it is bought from any other source. THH BOWBN-DBLAKGB CONTEST.-The Washington Chronicle, of the 16th inst,, says: The House Committee on Elections have nearly prepared a report in the con? tested case of Bowen ve. DeLarge, of I Sooth Carolina.' It seems probable that the report will be in favor of Bowen, on the grounds of the informality and irreg? ularity of the election of DeLarge, but it is doubtful if Bowen gets the seat; objection is likely to be made to him on tho'grouuda of his having been convict? ed and sentenced for a criminal offence, whioh will debar him from admission to the Hon..e..
