' : NEGRO K?-Kiiux IN ALABAMA.-Trou-1 ble in tho Republican ranks a short time ago revealed the faot that, there exists a . : secret, oath-bound society, .organized on ? military principles, now permeating the County of Montgomery, Ala., in all di-j j reotions, and having its "head centra'.' ? ia, the ci ty. of Washington.- The Mont? gomery Advertiser, of thc lat inst., gives the? following aooonnt of the latest de? velopments: I - ' ! "It seoma now that the more prudent and sober of tho Radical leaders in this locality are opposed to this dangerous ; secret body, and desirous of putting it -down and forcing its dissolntion. But 1 some of the younger and moro reckless 11 spirit? of the party, backed by the Af ri can rank and file in the national gourd, ?' are.disposed to reject the demand for the ? disbandment of this military association. The consequence of this collision Of sen? timent has been muoh newspaper wran- , g?tig, several turbulent political moot- 1 inga of the respective factions, and many arrests of parties on both sides from vin- < dio tive feelings. ''Messrs. Knox, Brainard and some others have been arrested under the Kn Klux law, as members of the 'national guards' and for disturbing public meet? ings; and in their torn, they haye arrest-1 ' ed Mr. Minnie, the District Attorney of ? the United States, and Mr. Healy, the i Marshal of Middle Alabama, under tho provisions of some of the Aotsof Con .'. gross. : "It really appears that if these arrests are to go on, the whole Badioal party will presently find itself in jail or nnder i ' bond. In the meantime, the Democrats ; are acting the part of 'Good Samaritans,' J and going bail for the Radicals arrested ; -the one by the other. There is not ""enough property in the whole Badioal party to make one ordinary bail bond.. It ia certainly a queer state of affairs. Why don't the snb-Ku Klux Committee come back here and report tho national guards to Congress?" A CiKous WAGON THBOWN Ovan A 'PBEOTPIOE.-A letter dated Ponghkeep-L sie. N.X, October 31, says: ll A terrible accident occurred in Oolam- * bia County, yesterday morning, between Bain's Corners and Copake, by which two men lost their lives.. The accident occurred on what is known as "\v ii liam o' Hill," a steep declivity. Just before . daylight, the band-wagon, or ohariot, ? attached to Howe's European Circus, | left Bain's Corners for Millerton, drawn . by eight horses, whioh were driven by ? an experienced driver, bot who did not , know the road. The morning being dark, he came upon the hill before he j was aware of tho fact. He attempted to J gather up his reins and put on his brake, ' but he waa not quick enough. His 1 eight-in-hand got the start ot him and \ ? dashed down the hill at frightful speed, ] when suddenly one of the wheel-horses j fell. He, with the ohariot, was dragged to the side of the road by his own frantio mates, where the ohariot upset and tum? bled down a precipice. On top were five musicians, the rest having gone to Mil lei ton by rail. The ohariot made two < complete summersets, the first throwing 1 the musicians of?, m?, in turning the second, fell on two ol them, killing them instantly. The other three and the j driver escaped as if by a mirado. The I names of the killed are J. A. Emiby, Jr., aged . twenty years, a single man, and a native of Liverpool, and Wem Fetzor, a Swiss, who leaves a wife and ohild be? hind. The fall extent of the horror of Chi? cago will probably never be known, but aa men's minds are gradually oalming II down, they are beginning to discover Bk that the loss of life was even more se SSL lions than has yet been discovered. Dia RP tr ac ted friends are looking aron nd in all MMh directions for friends who ^ill never SS ogain recpond to inquiries, and who are heedless of tho search for them. Long Hats of the missing are given in the Chi y osgo papers. Robert Gibson, who waa killed at Oandee's rubber works, New Haven, it is said, was the only man in the country who understood the process of welding rubber; so his loss is irreparable.
