N.X, October 31, says: ll A terrible accident occurred in Oolam- * bia County, yesterday morning, between Bain's Corners and Copake, by which two men lost their lives.. The accident occurred on what is known as "\v ii liam o' Hill," a steep declivity. Just before . daylight, the band-wagon, or ohariot, ? attached to Howe's European Circus, | left Bain's Corners for Millerton, drawn . by eight horses, whioh were driven by ? an experienced driver, bot who did not , know the road. The morning being dark, he came upon the hill before he j was aware of tho fact. He attempted to J gather up his reins and put on his brake, ' but he waa not quick enough. His 1 eight-in-hand got the start ot him and \ ? dashed down the hill at frightful speed, ] when suddenly one of the wheel-horses j fell. He, with the ohariot, was dragged to the side of the road by his own frantio mates, where the ohariot upset and tum? bled down a precipice. On top were five musicians, the rest having gone to Mil lei ton by rail. The ohariot made two < complete summersets, the first throwing 1 the musicians of?, m?, in turning the second, fell on two ol them, killing them instantly.
