This was the result expected, for it has, during the latter part of the proceedings, been evident that, so far as McFarland was oonoerned, the caso was virtually disposed of, and it was more those who had aided, abetted and sympathized with Richardson in gaining the affections of Mrs. McFar? land and taking her to himself, who were on trial than the prisoner. In fact, free loveism and nil its supporters, direct and indirect, or rather those pernicious doo trines whoso influence tends to weaken the marriage tie, bave been on trial, and up for au airing and public condemna? tion. Tho ground of acquittal is, of courso, the insanity of McFarland when he did tbe fatal shooting, a thing the jury ought, however, to be very euro of before accepting it as a fact.
