Tba reporta of the hoarding ol currency in the Southern Sletes to a largo amount appear to hare a good claim upon belief. It ii the opinion of those well informed on Southern affaira, aa well as of promi? nent bankers in that section, that the amount of currency-including United States notes, bank notes and specie-re? tained there, within the last fonr years, ?loaely approximates 8100,000,000. While heaxtating ?o accept fully this estimate, the New York Financial Chronicle says it ie well aware there are reasons for believ? ing that it does not very greatly exceed the truth. The South, from haring been BS tra vivant and luxurious, has acquired ft habit of economy bordering upon par? simony. In a determined effort to re? cover lost fortuno and position, nothing 19 more natural than to resort to hoard? ing, especially where there are few op? portunities at hand for investing the ninds profitably. While it is nnfortn nate for the Sooth and the country at largo that such an amount of capital should be held absolutely out of nse, yet hbo economy to which its accumulation is due stands in striking contrast to the prevailing extravagance of other sections af the country. The South is amassing (vealth; the North has been for a long time recklessly squandering it; and if these diverse processes are long continu? ed, the relative positions of the sections, so far as respects the power and varied influences associated with wealth, must be, in a measure at least, changed. The human body ls chiefly composed of tis? sues and fibres as sensitive to every change in the condition of the atmosphere as the most delicate, electrometer, or.the quicksilver in a barometor tube. The stomach, the skin, the nerves, the lungs, and the excretory organs are especially liable to be affected by these variations, and the best defence against then- disastrous ten? dency is to koop the digestivo machinery, which foods and nourishes the whole syotcm, in good working order. Ir tho stomach is weak or disordered, neither the blood nor tho hilo can be in a healthy state, and upon tho fitnoss of the H o two im? portant fluids for the offices assigned io them uv nature, and the regularity of their flow, health in a great measure depends. When the air is heavily laden with chilling vapors, as it often is at this Beacon of tho year, tho digestion should be an object of pe? culiar care. If ft is weak and languid, the whole physical structure will be enervated. If it is vigorous, tho entire organization will be strong to resist the untoward and depressing influence of a damp and vitiated atmosphere. A pure and powerful tonic is therefore especially needed aa a safeguard against the diseases moet common in the spring, and HOS TETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS being the moat wholesomo and potent medicine of the class at present known, a course of it is par? ticularly advisable at this period of the year.
