Four small streams pour into tho chasm, forming beautiful cascades, known as Stairway, Hawthorne, Vandevere, and Ribbon. A chestnut tree was felled on the farm of Mi. Conley, in Carroll County, Ga., on the 6th nit., which made 1,500 mils. After the tree was cut down, the longest cross-cut saw was procured that was pos? sible to be had: and. two men, with this saw and their axes, labored faithfully for a whole day in sawing the first cut. Tho top of the stump measures nine feet in diameter. The people of the United States are plundered of $20,000,000 a year, by the tariff ott coal, and pf $23,000,000 a year by the tariff on iron. $43,000,000 a year thus go straight from tho pockets of hard-working people into tho packet? of only these, two classes cf monopolists and the Congressmen who conspire to pass the laws which authorize the plun? dering;.
