LONDON, August 24.-Tho Times, in an editorial to-day, in wh??h the separa tion ol Lord Byron and his wife is do taUejtf?2er$ that Mrs. Stowe's narra? tive is o?tirely without foundation and a bose slander. .1 . While a religious festival was recently being C?Tebrated in Trau i, Italy, a large ornamentof wood and gauze, snrro anded by thou sands of tapirs, and located, iu the nave, took-fire. A panic ensued and the immense assemblage rushed to the doors, and men, women and children were thrown down and trampled opon. When quiet was restored, sixteen dead bodies were taken out, besides a number badly injprod. The Btoamer City of Bio Janeiro, brought, as an experiment, nineteen live oxen from, Montevideo. A steamer is now bmlding for that trade exclusively, and will be ready in six week?. The Morning Telegraph, discussing the cession of Cuba to the United States, says England would feel no jealousy at this aggrandizement which would com? plete the abolition of slavery, as an in? stitution. Tho.loss of Coba to Spain would be an unquestionable gain to the mother country and colony, and to the cause of mankind. PATHS, Augusta 24.-Tho French ex? iles, generally, receive Nopoleon's am? nesty with unequivocal demonstrations of gratitude. HAVANA, August 24.-Col. Nicolao, With 200 mon and two guns, routed 400 insurgents, near Jeaoats, in the cen? tral department. The rebels left twentv killed. "Washington NeWS. WASHINGTON, August 21.-Tho State Department records show the following as th? notion, on the fifteenth Amend? ment: Complete ratification-North Ca? rolina, Weat Virginia, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Maine, Louisiana, Michigan, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, Connootiout, Florida-12. Definite ra? tification-Missonri, Kansas-2. Re? jected-Kentucky, Delaware-2. The intention seems to be only to con? sider department business at next Cabinet meeti?g; but the partisans hope pro? gressing events will compel them to give some attention und take some action re? garding Cuba. Internal revenue receipts to-day $262, 000. Nearly $5,000,000 coin interest will be due on ten-forties September 1. $194, 000,000 in these bonds are out. No other coin interest is due until the 1st of No? vember. Domestic Newt. NEW YORK, August 24.-A German named Cohen died of Asiatic cholera to? day. Tho Tribune soys: "Mournful intelli? gence comes to ns from Tennessee. The chances of preventing the return of Mr. Andrew Johnson to the United States Senate are said to be diminishing. " PHILADELPHIA, August 24.-Two more small distilleries have been closed, but illicit productions continue. A fire broke, out at the corner of Ninth and Wallace streets, to-day, and is still progressing for the want of water te ex? tinguish it. The buildings were used for manufacturing purposes. The stoppage of tho paper mills at Ma?iunk, ran by water! increased the price of paper from 2}? to 3 cents per pound. PHILADELPHIA, August 24.-An insane son, named Evans, killed his father, to? day, aged sixty-three. The scone of the hfttrder was near that of Twichell. NB# ORLEANS, August 24.-A duel was fought at the Oaks, yesterday, between a Mississippian and an Orleanian, with Mississippi rifles, at forty paces. At the second fire, the Mississippian, who was the challenging party, received what was thought to be a mortal wound. RICHMOND, Va., August 24.-The weather was showery, here, yesterday There were heavy showers, last night, at Staunton, Lexington and Old Sweet Springs. CHARLESTON, August 24.-Arrived steamers Manhattan and Miunctonka, New York'; L. W. Everman, Philadel? phia; sohooner Clara Montgomery, New York, THE FIGURES.-The following figures have been compiled with great accuracy by a statistical contemporary, vouohed for by the Columbus (Ohio) Crisis. It appears that the "expenses of the army and navy department in 1867 were $5,500,000 inore than during the first year of the war. The expenses of these two departments in 1867 were $44,000, 000 mofe than in 1866. Daring Polk's administration, which includes the period of the Mexican war, the expenses of the war department were $90,540,788. The expenses for the same department for the year ending July 1, 1868, the third year of peace, were $128,854,494, or over $38,000,000 more during one year of peace than there were during four years of Democratic role, with the Mexican war on our hands. The interest on the Federal debt amounts to $140,000,000. That of the English debt is $180,000,000. The debt of Francois $2,700,000,000, the interest being $80,000,000. Thus we pay $10,000,000 more interest per year than England, and $60,000,000 more than France. In 1867 the taxes imposed on the 4,000,000 people of the State of New York amounted to $180,000,000, being about forty-five dollars for eaoh man, woman and child. This is four times as much per head as tho tax upon the people of Great Britain, four and a half times as muon as tho Fronch tax, and at least twelve times greater than that of Russia." THE reputation this excellent medicino en? joys, is derived from its cu res, many of which are truly marvoHous; inveterate cases of8cro folons Disease, where tho system seemed sat? urated with corruption, have been purified and 'cured by it. Scrofulous affections and disorders which were aggravated by the scrofulous con? tamination until they were painfully aili ic ting, have hecD radically curod in such great num? bers in almest every section of the country, that the public scarcely need to be informed of its virtues or uses. Scrofulous poison is one of the most destruc? tive enemies of our raco. Often, this unseen and unfelt tenant of the organism undermines tho constitution, and invites the attack of en? feebling or fatal diseases, without exciting a suspicion of its presence Again, it seems to breed infection throughout tho body and then, on some favorahlo occasion, rapidly develop into ono or other of Its hideous forms, cither on the surface or among the vitals. In the latter, tubercles may be suddenly deposited in tho lungs or heart, or tumors formed in tho liver, or it shows its preaenco by eruptions on the skin, or foul ulcerations on some part of the bodv. Heneo the occasional usoof a bottle of this SARSAPARILLA is advisable, even when no active symptoms of disease appear. Poisons afflicted with the following complaints gencrallv find immediato relief, and at length cure, by*the use of thia SARSAPARILLA: Sf. Anthony's Fire, Rose or Erysipelas, Tetter, Salt Rheum, Scald Head, Ringieorm, Sore Eyes, Sore Ears and other eruptions or viaiblo forma of Scrofulous disease. Also, in the more con? cealed forms, as Dyspepsia, Dropsy, Heart Dis? ease, Fits, Epilepsy, Neuralgia and the various Ulcerous affections of tho muscular and nerv? ous steins. Syphilis or Venereal and Mercurial Diseases are cured by it, though a long time is required for subduing these obstinate maladies by any medicine. But long continued use of this me? dicine will cure tho complaint. Leucorrhoa or Wliites, Uterine Ulcerations, and Female Dis? eases, aro commonly soon relievod and ulti? mately curod by its purifying and invigorating effect." Minute dirootions in each caso are found in oar Almanac, supplied gratis. Rheumatism and Gout, when causad by accumulations of | extraneous matters in th o blood, yield quickly to it, as also Liver Complaints, Torpidity, Con? gestion or Inflammation ot the Liver and Jvun dice. when arising, as they often do, from tho r inkling poisons in the blood. This s Mis A I AR it LA is a great restoror for the streng th und vigor of tho system. Those who aro Lan 'juid and Listless, Despondent, Sleepless and t roublod with Nervous Apprehensions or Fears, or any of tho affections symptomatic of Weak? ness, will find immodiato relief and convincing i vidouce of its restorative power upon trial.
