Davis writes to the Providence (R. I.) Journal to deny a silly story that she bad becu poisoned in Florida. For the payment of the snlaries of tho Commission to codify the laws of the State, ten thousand five hundred dollars. All contingent expenses connected there? with and allowed by law, shall be paid out of the contingent fund of the State, upon tho order of the Comptroller-General. SE(\ 10. That all taxes ussessed and paya? ble under this Act shall be paid in the following kinds of funds, viz: The bills re? ceivable of tho State, United States cur? rency, Nutional Bank uot?s, gold and silver coiu. SEC. ll. The Auditor of the State is here? by authorized and directed to levy, and cause to be collected, a sufficient per coutum of taxes, to raise a necessary amouut of money, upon the assessed valuations of the property of the State, to meet the ap? propriations enumerated iu this Act: Pro? vided, There shall not be assessed and collected, nuder the provisions of this Act, an amount execoding one million dollars.
