DEATHS OP PROMINENT ARTISTS. -In connection with the re-opening of the National Academy of Design, in New York, the faot is mentioned that ip less than five months focr academi? cians of national reputation have been removed by death, as follows: E. Leutze died in Wushington city in July; C. L. Elliott, in Albany, in August; S. A. Mount, at Setauket, L. I., in September, and W. S. Mount in the present month of No? vember. Of the first-named artist's works we have at the National Acade? my, "The Mother's Visit," "John Knox Reproving Mary Queen of Soots," "The Storming of Tleocali," "The Settlement of Maryland" and the "Iconoclast." Each of these pictures in its day was famous; the last named was especially popular, and has had a world-wide circulation through line engravings. WHAT STONEWALL JACKSON PRO? General Kilpatrick is lecturing in New York on Sherman's great march to the sea; and, as tho papers state, relates macy amusing unecdotes of the "bummers," and tho "frying-pan brigade," who, the veracious lecturer asserts, "rodo down a troup of rebels." There died, on Monday week last, in Baltimore County, at ilho ripe age of 110 years, a colored man named Jack Cox. "Jack," as he waa fami? liarly termed in tho neighborhood, was well known, and was quito a cha? racter. On tho 14th ultimo, u man named Casted, living near Des Arc, Ar? kansas, was token from his homo and hung. He was charged with being unable to distinguish his own hogs from his neighbors'. A poor fellow named Michael Mc? Fadden , fell dead in Somerville,Mass., on Thanksgiving eve, while on his way home with a basket full of pro? visions for the Thanksgiving dinner. Miss Anna Pamela Cunningham has boen re-elected, at Washington, President of the Ladies' Mount Ver? non Association.
