In the year which is now drawing to its encl, the art, tho skill and the labor of the people of the United States have been employed with greater diligence and vigor and on broader fields thun ever before, and the fruits of the earth bavo been gathered into the granary and tho store-houso in marvelous abundance. Our highways bavo been lengthened, and new and prolific regions have been occupied. We aro permitted to hope that long-protracted political and sectional dissensions are, at no distaut day, to give place to return? ing harmony and fraternal affection throughout the republic. Many foreign States have ontered into liberal agreements with us, while nations which are far off, and which heretofore have been unsocial and exclusive, have become our friends. The annual period of rest, which we haye reached ia health and tran? quility', and which is crowned with so many blessings, is by universal consent a oonvonient and suitable one for cultivating personal piety and practicing public devotion. I, therefore, recommend that Thursday, the 2Gth doy of November next, be set apart and observed by the people of the United States, as a day for public praise, thanksgiving and prayer to the Almighty Creator and Divine Ruler of tho Universe, by whoso - ever watchful, merciful and gracions providence alono States and nations, no less than families and individual mcu, dolivo and move and have their being. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and canned tho seul of the United States to be affixed. Done at tho oity of Washington, tho twelfth day of October, in the year of our Lord ono thou? sand eight hundred nnd sixty eight, and of tho independence of tho United States tho nine? ty third. ANDREW JOHNSON. By tho President: WmiiiAM H. SEWARD, Secretary of State. ? TKnnrnrjE ABBAUI/T AND MELAN? CHOLY CONS?QUENCES.-We learn that on Thursday last, Mr. Simpson Davi^, of Union County, while re? turning to his homo from Monroe, where ho had been in attendance on Court, was mot and assaulted by a negro, und beaten over tho bend in u most terrible manner. His skull was fractured, one eye knocked out, bin jaw broken, and his luce horribly lacerated. The instrument used was a heavy cane, with a long and heavy squ?r? iron ferule. Strange to nay, at our last accounts he wns still alive. But the consequent es of this dread? ful affair did not end with the treat? ment Mr. Davis received. He was n married mau, and the father of t-n children. His wife had been quite sick, but at tho time of tho assault, was convalescing. When told of it, thc shock was so great to lier, that she relapsed and died in two houri afterwards. The negro, wc learn, was arrested and lodged in Union jail. I Waiteshoro Argus. WANTED. Upon 111 i ? theory alono tho inventor of the Queen's De light establishes the great hy? gienic law, n illiout pure blood no flesh is free from disease. Tho Palo and Shrunken Forms, Y'ellow Faces, Weak Stomachs, Diseased Livers, Crippled Rheumatics, Nervous Hypochondriacs, Dyspeptic Vic? tims of Headache, so common in thia country, is owing entirely to tho hnmors of the blood. Very many other diseases j may b. traced to bad blood, Scrofula or King's Evil, Erysipelas, Exanthema ol Elevure, a Raab or Eruption on females, Blotches, Tetter, Goitre or Swelled Neck, Syphilis and Syphilitic Sores, Strumons Ulcers, etc. These cannot bo cured with? out purifying the blood. Now as to tho remedy. There is no other blood purifier that will accomplish such positive and ox traordinarv cures as Ileinitsh's Queen's Delight. Yon may tako a barrel of extrac t Sarsaparilla, and still you will not bo cured; and, as a proof of it, look around and you will observe the country, through? out its length and breadth, is tlooded with compound Sarsaparillas, extracts and syrups, claiming to bo blood purifiers, and yet wo sec to-day moro evidence of im? purity of tho blood than ever. Why is this ? Simply because theso extracts and Sarsaparillas are worthless medicines. Ask for Ileinitsh's Queen's Delight. This is not the Extract of Stellingia or Queen's Delight, nor is it a Compound Syrup of Queen's Delight, or Sarsaparilla and Queen's Delight, but simply Ileinitsh's Queen's Delight is tho trade mark.
