In selecting a site, for an orchard, choose a hill-side in preference to a. valley, .divided by. a small Btream. Warm, low intervals of land are more subject ' to untimely frosts tbnn tho neighboring elevations. As tho night air becomes chilled, its density in? creases, and it rolls down the hill-side and settles on the .flatt', where the prevailing stillness favors the process of freezing. During the mild and sunny dayB of winter, fruit trees are moro liable to be swelled prematurely on low bottoms. One who is in the habit of riding over a broken piece of country in cold, still nights, will not need to be told that the lowest temperature will be found in the lowest localities. Fruit trees will bo less likely to Buffer from cold weather when the ground they stand upon is thoroughly drained.
