A CHANOE IN AGRICLUTURE.-Tho increased attention paid by ngricul- I turista to dairy products aud to the growth of fruits nnd vegetables for the city markets, ia noticed in a re? port of the United States Commis? sioner of Agriculture. He shites that the butter of New York in 1865, one of several products of the dairy, was estimated at $60,000,000; that the supply of milk was also enormous, and the manufacture of cheese in that State had become a very im? portant pursuit, there being not only immense contributiou to the home market, but the quantity exported in 1865 was 53,080,468 pounds, valued at $11,684,927. It is even said that the American cheese is supplanting the British product in tho English mar? keta. It is strange that more atten? tion has not been paid by American agriculturists to tho culture of fruits and vegetables. The importance of the great city markets has been, it is true, moro and moro appreciated in the Eastern and Middle States. There can be no safer investment for capital and industry thau the culti? vation of vegetables and fruits for the supply of tho lending towns and cities of the Atlantic coast, which aro growing with such steady aud rapid progress t hat an increasing and enormous demand may bo relied on as among the most certain events of the future. IN BANKRUPTCY.-Tho following orders iu bankruptcy were signed by Judge Bryan, in Charleston, on tho 17th: Messrs. H.'Lt. Jeffers Sc Co., Evert E. Bedford, Israel Ottolengui, John Wallack, of Charleston. Israel Charles, of Greenville. William Clinkscales, W. J. Clink Boales, John M. Vandever, of Abbe? ville. Howell Easterlin, Joseph Funder burk, of Orungeburg. Abraham Iseur, of Georgetown. John H. Laffitte, of Barnwell. Isaac J. Lafarge, of Williamsburg. Drayton T. Livingstone, Andrew M. Wilken, of Newberry. Some laborers employed by Mr. Vanderbilt applied to have their time reduced to the eight-hour sys? tem. The Commodore ordered their time reduced to seven hours, and paid them pro raia. One of tho Irishmeu, who did not liko this turn of affairs, said to his neighbor: "Well, Mike, I wish the Commodore was iu-." "Oh," said Pat, "be dad, that wouldn't help you, for he'd have thu coutrol of tho whole place, inside of a week I" SERVED THEM RIGHT.-Tho Mont? gomery Mail says: "Within the past few days a largo number of negro employees have beeu discharged in this oily, who, by voting for tho negro Constitution directly arrayed themselves against tho whites and their business interests. Servad them right. Tho negroes wero warned of this in time." I There are no rr on Ward's Island, New York harbor, 1,000 able-bodied emigrants, living upon tho charity of tho cora missioners of emigration. 1 Strong efforts are being mnde to in? duce them to settle in the Southern States for the purpose of supplying the loud call for laborers in that sec j tion. . A Texas paper gives an account of a "rising" among tho negroes in I Wood Oounty. During tho coldest I days the heads of families "ria" in ? the morning, proceeded to certain pluces and made contract? with tho I whites, irrespective of politics, for I the coming year. More business was done in New York city last year thau in Boston, j Philadelphia, New Orleans, Chicago, Baltimore, Cincinnati and St. Louis together. It is calculated that the sum ex? pended for sleigh-riding in New York at present amounts to over $100,000 j per day. The Register, a Republican paper recently commenced in Richmond, Vu., has suspended publication. To City Tax-Payers. CITY CLERK'S OFFICE, ConuitBIA, February 14, 1808. DEAR IN MIND.-When diseaso has undermined tho health, and thc physical system has becomo prostrated, a stimu? lant that will not only strengthen, but re movo tho cause, should bo immediately resorted to. Mental distress is also a fruitful source of the breaking down of the constitution, and the ravages of this enemy to health aro truly alarming. For all such maladies HOSTETTER'S STOMACH BIT? TERS have been found unsurpassed. By acting directly upon the digestive organs, they removo tho heavy, disagreeable feel? ing after eating, so often complained of by persons of a delicato temperament. Aa soon as digestion is restored, tho patient finds his strength increasing and his ge? neral health improved. Thousands of poraons certify that it may? be relied on in all cases of weakness or nervous debility attendant npon sedentary habits. Tho generality of Bitters aro so disagreeable to tho taste that they aro objectionable to a weak stomach. This is not tho caso with Hostet'jr's Bitters, which will bo found mild and extremely pleasant. Balsamic plants, barks and roots contribute their restorative juices to render it soothing and strengthening. Its basis is the only puro stimulant which has ever beon produced containing no fusil oil, or any other deleterious clement. Tho most careful and skillful chemists have analyzed the Bitters, and pronounce thom harmless. This is scientific testimony; but the testimony of the hundreds of thousands who havo experienced tho pre? ventive and curative effects of the great, vegetable tonic and alterative of modern times is still more conclusive. In Fever and Aguo, Dyspepsia, Billiousnee.i. Ner? vous Complaints, Chronic Complaints and general debility, it is as nearly infallible as anything in this fallible w orld can be. I HAVE PATENTED, and now desiro to introduce, an important improvement, in tho construction of ARTIFI? CIAL DENTURES, whereby tho strength, reliability and facility of repair, pertain? ing to swaged plato work, is communicated to moulded metalic or vulcanizablo base. Strong Plate Teeth aa firmly attached to tho base as if soldered to swaged plate, are. bv this process, substituted for those specially designed for moulded base. By their uso tho operator is left freo to ex? ercise his own judgment in their arrange? ment, and finds himself no longer confined to tho sameness of tho present stylo of blocks, or single teeth weakened by carv? ing for moulded work. No new appliances aro required in this process. It IB eaaily acquired by any one familiar with either moulded or swaged work. It gives to tho operator confidence in the reliability of his cases, exempting him from the disappointment and per? plexity often attendant on his moBt faith? ful efforts., lt render* partial cases as reli? able as full sets, and, consequently, will tend to ameliorate the present depforablo practice? of extracting every tooth, sound or unsound, which stands in the way of the latter. Tho method bas been thoroughly tested, and is now submitted to the profession with tho assurance that it will be found to fulfill all that is claimed for it. Its results are highly artistic, very beautiful, and af? ford the utmost satisfaction to operator OFFICE LICENSES will bo the system adopted, in relation to which-and other m'Hers in connection- circulars will bo furnished, on application to the ?nbscrib or.
