SIMS' DONATION.-Our readers will remember the liberal donation of $1,000 in gold, made by Dr. J. Ma? rion Sims, a resident of Paris, during the past summer, for the relief of the destitute of this his native Di ? triot. The Commissioners of the Poor, ire learn, into whose hands the funds were placed by the committee of gentlemen appointed by the Go? vernor for its disbursement, has pur? chased a tract of land with a small portion of the fund, continuing about 100 acres, four miles East of the vil? lage, for the purpose of establishing a permanent home for the helpless and infirm. Contracts have already been let for the erecting of suitable and comfortable buildings; and thc {linns, as minutely narrated to us, are plausible, and, in our judgment, promising the successful completion of the undertaking. The institution, we understand, will be designated ..'Sims' Home," and will bounder tho care of a competent and humane su? perintendent.-Lancaster Ledger. The system of signaling and tele? graphing are now uniform in the army and navy of the United States. The cadets at West Point, and the midshipmen at Annapolis, are in? structed in the same system, so that when they become officers they will be enabled, in any contingency of . land or naval service, to open and maintain communication by codes of signaling and electric telegraphy identical in their operation. A cotemporary informs us "that the young women of Kenosha, Wis? consin, are to compete for prizes at a dancing tournament." Surely this is putting the matter on a wrong footing. Tournaments wero for the display of feats of arms, not of feats of legs. At the dancing competition, the president will bo the King of (dancing) Booty, we suppose, and list slippers will be excluded from the lists.
