The true friends of the measure, fear? ful of spontaneous opposition to the movement, originating on their side of the House, are holding off, and so far every bill introduced looking to its repeal, has a rider which will kill it, or provoke weeks of discussion, favorable action before Christmas is highly improbable. The Committee of Ways and Meana agreed unanimously, in its session this morning, to roport a bill for tho repeal of the cotton tax. There was nc business of impor tance transacted in either house oi Congress to-day. The Senate anc House have both adjourned over tc Saturday. The President is sending no nomi nations to tho Senate, and that bod] shows no disposition to. act on som? twenty nominations before then from the last Cession.
