The ship Gauss, from Bremen, with the first batch of Gorman immi? grants, arrived in Charleston, on Thursday. From a detailed account in tho Neues, -wo make the ' following extracts: Tho Gauss h ovo in sight at about 8 o'clock, yesterday morning, bul meeting tho ebb tide, anchored abont a mile West of? Fort Sumter. Thie was seen from the city, and the tug Christiana went down immediately tc ascertain if any assistance was re 3u ir od. The Captain availed himsell f the opportunity, and the Ganse was towed by the Christiana to South Atlantic "wharf. * In tho meanwhile, the report had spread through the city, that thc Gauss had entered the harbor. On? by one, and in groups of four anc five, the citizens hurried down to th? wharf, and, long before the bark had come alongside, the wharves wer< thronged with ourious and eagei people. At 12 o'olook, the Gauss came slow ly up. Over the side rail were peep ing a host of bright faces, and, nov and t.^ain, a handkerchief waved fron the .slip and answered from th? shore, snowed that one dear frienc had recognized another, or som? kindly German had caught a glimpsi of a form he had missed for many < day. In quiet, earnest pathos th scene was beyond description. Tb immigrants hailed. gladly the end o their voyage; and those who wer pressing their hands, or kissing thei cheeks, felt a moisture in their eye and a joy in their breasts, that ha? been unknown for years. So was th welcome of the immigrants a warr one; BO was their greeting as cordie ?Q&? ii could have been. The whole number of immigrant is 152, and it has been learned, wit! pleasure, that the accommodation were ample for them. Their far was good aird abundant, and thei only trouble was a frequent rc eui renee of that malady peculiar t thoso who go down to the sea i ships, steamers or sailing boats. Th weather was excellent, altbnug cairns were rather too frequent. Du ing the trip, which was forty-nic days from Bremen and forty daj <4rom Lizard Point, the passengei amused themselves with singing an such recreations as can be i m prc vised on ship-board. The men, faitl ful to their pipes, went forward an smoked, when other resources failet and the women gossiped, and sewei and talked over and discussed vb was best to be done when thc reached Carolina. Cordially, heartily and earnest does the State of Carolina give gree ing to .her German children. SI has known-in war and peace-tl thrift, the courage, the patience ar the solid strength of those who: fortunes have long been united wi her own; and now she weloom others of the same race and blood warmly ns she has cherished, tho who have already been trusted, tri and proved. Carolina rejoices in tl new accession to her strength, ai wish OB to each and every ono a bea felt God-speed. Roberts ft Co., Atlanta, Qa. Gentlemen: I am woU pleased with the result of the use of the "Donblo Refined Po?dretto" on my crops. I tried it on both corn and cotton, and am satisfied wherever it was applied the yield waa more than double what it wonld have been without it. I regret exceedingly my not using it more extensively the present year, but will try to make up my loas by purchasing a largo? quantity next spring. I regard it as the cheapest, most reliable, and easiest man? aged fertilizer within my knowledge, and cheerfully recommend it (aa I havo tried it thoroughly ) to the farmers of this section, and particularly to tboso planting cotton, from the fact of its causing 'it to mature from ten days to two weeks earlier than it would without tho use of tho Poudretto. I also used it on my gardon, and found it ol mnch benefit to all kinda of plants. Very respectfully, &o. G. 8. O G LE SB Y. Extract from a lotter received from Prof. Martin, of Hampden. Sidney College, Va., dated July 1,1807: The Doublo Refined Poudrette is operat? ing like a charm on my crop, and attract? ing universal attention from aU beholders, I am already satisfied that it is tho cheap? est and surest renovator of our worn-oul landa. - High Shoals, (Ta., October 4, 1867. James R. Dey, Esq. Sir: Tho Donblo Refined Poudrette 1 bought for two other parties in connectior with myself-one of them uced it on cot tor and corn, and thinks it answered finely the other put it on cotton, on very pooi ground, and thinks it doubled bis crop. ] UBed it on corn. It answered finely, an< waB thought by the hand that cultivatoc the orop to bo fully equal to Rhode's Supei Phosphate. I also paed it on about ai aero of cotton, and TE ara clearly of opinioi that it is the best and cheapest fertilize in uso, and I expect to order several toni ?tliia winter. Yours, very respectfully, ISAAC POWELL. Ellaville, Schlep Co., Ga., Oct. 4,1867. The Double Refined Poudretto, pur chased of you last spring, I think, in crossed my crop of cotton 150 pounda pe acre; put it upon worn-out pine land, a tho rate of 200 pounds per acre, drilled L with cotton seed. Yours, Ac., 8. MONTGOMERY. Salisbury, N. C., August 10, 1867. James R. Doy, Esq. Dear Sir: I can safely Bay that you Double Refined Poudrette is far suporic to any other fertilizer for cotton; for I hav given it a fair trial this season. Yours, JEHU FOSTER, Ja. Savannah, Ga., September 25, 1867. James R. Dey, Esq., President. Dear Sir: I used the Double Refine Poudrette, bought of you last spring, o corn. I think it increased tho yield on? half. I consider it an excellent manun Respectfully, T. HOLCOMBE. Ridgeway. 8. C., September 21, 1867. Mr. James R. Dey. Sir: I applied the Doable Refined Poi droite by itself, and in combination wii other fertiUzers, on cotton, and am please with it; so muon so that it is my preeei intention to purchase a larger supply yon the next year to apply to my cottc orop. Yours very respectfully, HENRY C. DAVIS. Rocky Mount, Edgecomb Co., N. C. Nov 1 James R. Dey. Esq. Sir: In reply to your inquiry of the r snits of our experience in the use of yo improved Poudretto-purchased of you 1 this year's cotton crop-we would beg lea to say that tho present season has be ono quite unfi:\ orable to the action of I fertilizers. Several kinds of manures wero used us. with the exception of your Poudreti with little or no effect to the crop. Where the Poudrette waa used, it ga us near half a bale more per acre, a caused the cotton to open muoh earli and we would, therefore, recommend t same as a concentrated manuro for t growth, of cotton, as well SB improveme to the soil.
