During the last fiscal year, tho sales of tho public land amounted to 3SS,294 ncres; the locations for militarv bounty covered .103,ISO acres; and tho total quantity taken under tho homestead Act for actual settlement was 1,S92,516 acres. Titles vested under railroad grants amounted to 9?,596 acres, while the number of acres assigned to agricul? tural and mechanical colleges was 051,066. The whole number of acres disposed of during the last fiscal year waa 4,629,312. The English Government, tired of their protracted and useless negotia? tions with King Theodorus, of Abys? sinia, have nt length resolved to com? pel, by force of arms, the King to release the English captives. Ar? rangements to that effect have proba? bly been made with the King of ' Egypt, who is at present in England. When the first news of this warlike measure reaches Abyssinia, thu lives of the captives will be in groat dau ?0r from tho wrath of tho King. The crown worn. by the Austrian Empress at her recent coronation as (Jueen of Hungary was made for Maria Theresa, but never worn by that Empress. Ii' another, four females existed for a week on two pound* of corn, together with some roots. On the road. I met an? other who had walked twelve miles to beg some food for her children.
