He called upon tho holder, asked for and re? ceived the note, ns if ho intended to pay it, and immediately transferred it to a capacious mouth, and, at one gulp, took it down. Ho waa arrested aud committed to jail, in default of ?1,000 bail. The second day's registration in Now Orleans was abandoned lumost entirely to negroes from plantations. Tho Bulletin says that some of tho old wealthy colored Creole popula? tion thiuk they aro left out entirely, and hnvo lost their social status, and on that account aro preparing to re? turn to Fi ance. A law-suit against Gen. McDowell was recently decided in California by rendering him liable to damages for arresting anti imprisoning persons who expressed exultation over tho .assassination of President Lincoln, and he now finds suits against him for similar cases all over the State.
